C ass N September 1940 th1rty one exclted chxldren entered Sherburne Central School to start the1r long Journey to h1gh school Graduat1on Day Th1s was an ent1rely new experlence for us and a b1t hard at flrst but we soon became acqualnted w1th the sllde the teeter tauter and the bulldlng blocks We w1ll never forget how proud we were of our rhythm band rn kxndergarten F11-st grade meant another great ad-justment be cause we then began our f1rst formal classroom work We not only acqtured consxderable knowledge but we enjoyed the cornpamonshrp of our many fr1ends I add1t1on to our busy schedule of the three R S 1n second grade we trled out our dramat1c ab1l1t1es In our presentat1on of The Spr1ng Garden for the rest of the Grade School some of us were dressed as daf fOd1lS wh1le others acted xn the role of elves DA Each year we antlclpated new adventures but lt was not unt1l we reached flfth grade that we agaln exerc1sed our theatrxcal talents 'The FIVE Ghosts was a mystery play 1n whrch we d1d everythlng from crawllng under tables to sxngxng songs about W1tCh6S ab1l1ty 1n mus1c when we won the prlze for s1ng1ng at the Grade Day exerc1ses We were so proud ofour plants that we promoted' the begon1as from grade to grade even through h1gh school ISTIOI Upon enterxng our last year of Grade School thoughts of becormng Jumor h1gh students were raclng through our mxnds When we proudly rece1ved our d1 plomas at the end of th1s year happy memorles of Grade School days st11l remamed w1th us LJ It was 1n the seventh grade that the class from Smyrna Jomed us and our group nearly doubled 1n s1ze We felt super1or to the grade students now that we were 1n JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Th1s year brought qu1te a change for we would be under not one but several teachers 1n a number of d1fferent rooms Before long we had moved through the seventh and e1ghth grades and were ready for hxgh school September 1948 brought us 1nto the n1nth grade and SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Our ' Apr1l Showers' dance the f1rst we had ever sponsored was the most lmportant event of the year The money we made from the dance was the beg1nn1ng of our class treasury It was also durlng our Freshman year that we chose the course we w1shed to take 1n hlgh school and whlch m1ght lay the pattern for our future careers Upon enterlng our Sophomore year we learned that we were to be gulded by two able adv1sers Mrs Noon and Mr Fox It was under the1r superv1s1on that we decorated the gym and made the ' klckapoo Joy JUICE for our Sadle Hawkms Dance Scholastlc ally our busxness students were drlrgently worklng to pass bookkeeplng wh1le many of the college entrance s udents were f1nd1ng Latln II no clnch At the beg1nn1ng of our .Tumor year we elected Rex Sawyer class pres1dent Our fxrst undertaklng was the booth at the School Fa1r wh1ch for the f1rst t1me brought us 1nto competltlon w1th the Sen1ors e struggled wlth st1cky cand1ed apples popcorn balls and c1der yet we made the booth a profltable bus1ness Our r1valry wlth the Sen1ors d1d not end wlth the School Fa1r Soon after the Jumors were frantrcally r1ng1ng doorbells all over town to see 1f the Class of 53 couldn't outdo the Sen1ors 1n the annual magazlne sales Although we lost by a very small margm about 556 oop we had gamed a needed sum for our treasury 4440 4. 4 W9 - , .
