fenior Class Histor. Xyllt'lN't' we eame. and whither we go, who we are and how many we are no one knows. Our ranks have been thinned by many who have answered the eall to other oe- eupations, and to what extent we have been reinforeed from the .lunior Class will not be made manifest until Commenee- ment is over. Though various eauses have made many who were Freshmen in '17 leave sehool, yet aeeessions have been reeeived from other sehools and our elass is by no means small. Vvhether we be few or many, we are an illustrious elass. We have not only won honors for ourselves, but we have also lived through periods of the severest agitation in Shepherd College. The Senior Class has been ehristened the White Class in honor of the loyal and able President ol Shepherd College W. II. S, White. At our initial meeting in the autumn of '20 we eleeted Charles Priee llarper, ol' Pendleton County, Pres- ident of the Senior Class. Under the aggressive leadership of this young man we expeet to eonquer all obstacles whieh may perehanee eome our way. On the basket-ball floor our elass had several players. On the diamond we have the star pitieher of the Normal team and also several other players. In the inter-soeiety contests our representatives have appeared. In short we have studied everything from the texts whieh our Freshmen find so diffi- eult to those high prineiples whieh give our Senior Normals glory. Now we shall soon go forth as graduates. XYe do not elaim to be eneyelopedias of knowledge. lt, was not for this we eame to Shepherd College. The development. of thought has been our ehiel aim. If we have sueeeeded in this we are then sure that our educ-ation has not been a failure. NYe retire from the seene of aettion not with any boast., but humbly asking for a plaee to employ the talents we have developed. NY. Il. and Il. B. J. To The lenior Class of Tvvent. -One Class ol twenty-one we praise thy name For thou seekest neither riehes nor fame. True to thy motto and thy llower Serviee and purity will give thee power. Built from timber that. is strong and lirm Shaped by true workman who are skilled and learned, Given to the eoming years of time To light for the freedom of every elime. When into the world we see thee go XYith a great ambition to serve and grow We know not what may obstruet thy way But we know thou wilt truly serve thy day. VKX- love to think of days that are past Of those golden sehool days that sped so fast, Vyhen we were taught! how to smile away The eares and sorrows of every day. Our friendships of elass are very dear And we know they will live through every year. And the days we spend dear Class with thee XYill shine like beaeons aeross life's sea. XYe will sing thy praise in realms above XYhen we gather around that Throne of love And every Angel of God will see Ilow pure is the XN'hite Class of Old S. C.
