THOMAS CQNDIT MILLER URING the past few years, XVest Virginia has made almost marvelous strides in educational roffress 'Nlany ffood schools have been established, and the general efliciency of the school p g it . j g -P 'v:.f. - . . . - . system has been raised. XVe know of no one man to whom our state owes so much lor these improved conditions as our loved Principal, Thomas Condit Miller. He was born in Marion County, tnow Vlfestl Virginia, july io, 1848, and received his early education in a private school of his native county, His education was continued in the Fairmont Normal School and in Adrian College, Michigan. For over forty years he has been actively and successfully engaged in educational work in XVest Virginia. For many years he was Principal of the Fairmont Public Schoolg for eight years, he was Principal of the Preparatory Department and Professor of Pedagogy in the XVest Virginia l'niversity, which position he resigned to become State Superintendent of Schools, in which capacity he served the state with marked success for another eight years. Iluring this time his progressive service and reforms were invaluable, and the effects of his work will be felt in XVest Virginia for years to come. Progress has always been his watchword, and he has always eagerly grasped every new idea that promised advantage to the cause of education. He has been a member of the KVest Virginia Education Association since its organization, and at the present time is one of the Vice-Presidents of the National Education Association. Shepherd College appreciates Mr. Miller and the efforts he has made, and is still making, to bring the institution up to the highest standard of usefulness and eliiciency, and we take great pleasure in offering this humble expression of our love and appreciation. gl.
