ing, and which he has been permitted to watch over during its periods of prosperity and adversity, is a beautiful example of fidelity to a noble cause. A recent enactment by the State Legislature creating the State Board of Control and the State Board of Regents marks the passing of the local Executive Committees. Mr. Beltzhoover, faithful to the last, by his prompt and decisive action in behalf of the school, secured for us our present use and control of the Old College Building, without which the school would be seriously handicapped. His ofhcial connection with the school may be severed, but the students and friends of Shepherd College will always hold him bound to us by the ties of gratitude and esteem. OGG?

JOHN GOTLIEB KNUTTI Born in Niedlluh, Switzerland, November 21, 1871. Came to America with his father's family whe11 he was eight years of age. Attended Public Schools and St. George-'s Academy. Entered tl1e Vlfest Virginia University in 1893, graduating in 1897. Member of the Faculty of Fairmont Normal School three years. In iooo he entered Leland Stanford -lr. University and received the degree of Master of Arts in 19113. Chosen assistant in Shepherd College in the fall of 14,102 and Principal in IQO3, serving until his death, which occured at Morgantown july 31, IQO9. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery at Morgantown.
