The Shepherd Bluejays had a very successful season this year of 1948 under their new coach, Ralph Forsyth. The fellows won 5, tied 2, and lost 1, finishing up second in the Valley C Confer- ence standings. We lost our first encounter to Clare 21-14. It was a thriller with Clare-pushing over the final touchdown in last 3 seconds of the game. Shepherd came back with higher spirits and confi- dence to whip Breckenridge 12-0. The next week we tied St. Louis, 12-12. This Game was highlighted by an exciting punt return by Bob Manor, quarterback, behind near perfect down field blocking by his tem-mates. It looked like a good season as we beat our next three foes, Golanan, St. Charles, and Fulton, 19-O, 6-0, and 32-12 respectively. The St. Charles game was a tough one with the local lads heavily outweighed. St. Charles boasted the heaviest team in the conference. The Bluejays were outweighed in practically every game. Ithaca broke our hopes of tying for lst place by holding us to a 13-13 score. We wound up our season with a 38-0 win over Edmore. In that game Coach Forsyth 101 everyone play except the water boy. An All Senior lineup started out the last game. Jack Meyer was chosen Honorary Captain for the year and was also selected as All-Conference tackle.
