With the two-fold purpose of learning the principles of good theater and of learn- ing how to get along with people, the Drama Club decided to make the production of Thornton Wilder's play Our Town its major project for the year. This play won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1938, and it is unusual in that the usual appurte- nances ofa contemporary play are omitted: there is virtually no scenery or props. In their place is substituted the Shakespearean ' emphasis of development of character by acting, words and pantomime. The club ac- ce ted the challenge of a play which depend a P - an ed on acting almost completely, and found .4 much satisfaction in exploring the themes of life, love, marriage and death as revealed in OUR TOWN. 63 X Cast of OUR TOWN , the 1956 Dramatics Club Production
