Dogpatch was chosen as a nuclear testing site after being voted the most unnecessary community in the United States. However, the residents of Dogpatch re- fused to accept this fact and set out to find something that would make their community necessary. After a diligent search, they discovered that the Yokum family possessed a rare medical wonder, Yokumberry Tonic. The tonic improved the physical appearance of those who drank it. The only side effect of the tonic was that it caused a personality change. Because of this fault, the government would not recognize Yokumberry Tonic as a significant means of saving Dogpatch. The commu- nity residents had lost all hope of saving their homes when it was discovered that the statue of the founder of Dogpatch. Jubilation T. Cedar Hill College, an all-girl school run by Miss Eu- stacia Hayworth, was in danger of being taken over by a boys’ academy owned by Mr. Oliver Lee Oliver. Mrs. Cobina Brewster, a wealthy trustee, gave them their only hope by offering financial help. When she heard that her granddaughter. Lotus, was arriving from the west to attend Cedar Hill, she arrived from England and prepared to write a check. Lotus turned out to be a boy. When the faculty real- ized what the outcome might be if Mrs. Brewster’s granddaughter did not attend Cedar Hill, they dressed Lotus as a girl and thus began a long masquerade. “OK. chanty girl, let’s see who is better! Homecoming Queen and Court Senior A ttendants Oueen Underclassmen A ttendants Senior Senior candidate, Joella Zingaro, was crowned 1972 Homecoming Queen by former queen. Cindy Bullano. Joella and her court were honored at a special pro- gram held in the auditorium for grades nine through twelve. This indoor assembly enabled the Homecoming activities to be shared by the majority of students and it eliminated unfavorable weather as a factor which very often spoiled the planned pageantry. The football players, who in previous years were ex- cluded from the ceremony because it was held at half- time during the game, were cheered on to victory at the pep assembly which followed the Homecoming festivities. December 18, 1971, brought the Christmas dance, which was held in the high school cafeteria. Joe Pasca- rella and Cindy Nicholson were chosen as general chairmen. Other committee chairmen were: Rita Mel- der and Lugene McConahy, food: Marsha Wagner and Bob Braun, walls; Dave Nastal and Rita Tanner, lobby; Jim Magee and Jim Clingensmith, ceiling; Karen May- berry and Betsy Gunther, band platform and Santa's chair; and Karla Dean, entertainment. “It’s a Charlie Brown Christmas. ” Usherettes and ushers who aided at the dance were Roxanne Huir.
