N14 DEDIC ATE . . To these men who have so graciously given their time and effort sothat we, the Class of 1956, might be better prepared to face the problems of life. Through their self-sacrificing work in our behalf and personal kindness to us, these in- structors have become outstanding personalities in our memories. Mr. Bukowski, teacher of science and geog- raphy, has been a very patient and sympathetic classroom leader and a very capable and help- ful annual adviser. Mr. Sovesky, teacher of mathematics and science, has trained well his students in the class- room and has also been a key figure in student activities. S X-Ray Cruiser CAFETERI STAFF O R LEADERS The Tomahawk of 1956 has the honor of being the twenty- seventh edition of the ShenangoYearbook. In compiling this vol- ume the Staff was amazed to find that a number of our teachers have long periods of service at our school. Mr. Johnston and Mr. McCollough top the list with a thirty-year record. It is in- teresting to note that both of these men taught in the township before the present building was completed. In 1926 Mr. Johnston taught Latin, general science, civics, and English in the build- ing which, at the present time, houses the Grace Bible Commu- nity Church. He was also football, basketball, and baseball coach. That same year Mr. McCollough taught the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade in a building on Route 88 across from Zingaro's. He later joined the high school staff as physical education in- structor and assistant coach. Miss Cowmeadow will this year complete twenty-nine years of service, starting to teach when this building was new. She taught English, was adviser to the Freshman Class, and was responsible for instituting the custom of passing the Tomahawk from the Senior to the Junior Class at the Class Day Exercises. We list the above three as our veterans. Our next faculty member in rating Mr Beatty, our present principal has a twenty year record at S H S The Tomahawk Staff and the Student Body congratulate these our veterans and say a hearty 'thankyou for the many services they have rendered our school and community over the years To the remaining corps of administrative workers and faculty we also express our deepest appreciation for serving us so faithfully and for guiding our footsteps during our high school days M SS MARGARET COWMEADOW English 52. Little by little the material was gathered together as the days passed, and when the dead- lines approached, a last frantic rush ensued to meet them. The Editorial Staff efficiently carried through the de- tails of the actual production of the book. The Business Manager and her assistants kept the money rolling in and reined in attempts of the editorial staff to bankrupt the organization. Thus the year.sped by. Our Staff has been grateful for the privilege and responsibility entrusted to us, and trusts that this book might present a vivid picture of the true Shenango spirit in every page. Editor- E. Mgr. - J, Crable Advisers NEWSPAPER STAFF A tremendous amount of time and effort has been spent willingly by our Staff to make the Shenan-Gazette one of the best publications. The informal set-up of our newspaper has made it possible to cover every phase of school life. Editorials, interviews, news articles, sports columns, and humor sections have held the interest of the student body. This monthly Gazette now has a circulation of 350 copies per issue, an achievement which has been attained by the present Staff under the able supervision of Mr. John Susko, adviser, Rachel Cross, editor, and Maureen Sullivan, as- sistant editor. Yea, Shenango! This was the familiar cry of the girls who led the team's loyal supporters in those rousing cheers which, in turn, spurred our boys on to victory. They had a busy schedule from the opening offootball season until the close of basketball and enjoyed every minute of the time. The squad under the capable leadership of Mr. Thomas Sovesky started the yearwith nine membersg then Sue Boyd moved to Cali- fornia in November and this left eight girls to boost for the bas- ketball team. The seniors who will not be with the squad next year are Bar- bara Pilch and Maureen Sullivan. CHEERLE DERS 33-dgnqm Wifi! 52 -Bm A zz' Inf'-1,5 Mem!
