The mem- bers of Mixed Chorus presented the “Nativity” at Christmas and they also sang at many high school assemblies. Under the leadership of Mrs. Balik the Mixed Chorus is progressing well this year. — 28 — First Row, Left to Right: Brest, Henderson, Munnell, Mdlrsth, Fedor, Ssrbo, Ssrbo, Fundoots, Shellenberger. GIRLS’ CHORUS Girl’s Chorus is composed entirely of Freshmen girls. If you are walking through the first floor hall, fourth period on Friday, you will hear the sweet strains of music coming from this chorus, practicing under the capable direction of Mrs. Balik. The chorus sang at high school assemblies where they were really appreci- ated. They also presented an operetta in the spring. This is the first year the girl’s chorus ever presented an operetta and it was really a fine success. The girls enjoy singing very much and when they get together, they have but one goal and that is to sing their best and for the enjoyment of all. — 29 — Shoaff, Quarterson, Collina, Ketzel, McCllntock, Adamezyk. Kervl. Kalajalnan, Zeigler, Curie, Glaseer, Mcllrath. GIRLS’ ENSEMBLE This is the Girl’s Ensemble, Singing is their pleasure, They represent Shenango, The high school that they treasure. The Girl’s Ensemble, a group of girls chosen for musical ability, is organized for the main purpose of representing Shenango High School at the Forensic Music Contest. These Contests are held in March, April and May, respectively. The county contest is held at Westminster College, the district contest at Edinboro State Teachers College, and the state contest at Oil City, Penn- sylvania. The ensemble also sings at the high school assemblies. The girls represented in the en- semble work faithfully together and never shirk their responsibilities. Shenango ended with an average season. The team used linemen in the backfield to fill the vac- ancies due to injuries. There were many of the linemen who were new to the football squad this year. The game with Union was a thriller, as usual, when our cross town rival teams play. Union won the game by one point. 1 he game with Bessemer was just too much for our small inexperienced boys. Jackson, New Wilmington, Bessemer and Shenango. Practice was started on the last week of March, with four lettermen return- ing from last year’s team. The team looked forward to a fair season, but soon they saw hopes of winning the championship. The season ended with a tie for first place between Bessemer and Shenango. Previously the team had split two games with Bessemer in the league. The play-off game with Bessemer held at Union High Field proved that Shenango had the better team with fine pitching by Parks and good hitting and fielding by the entire team. Shenango won 9-2. Shenango was eliminated in the State Championship by West Deere. This was the first baseball championship for Shenango. Shenango is looking forward to another successful year, losing only two lettermen from the team. — 47 — NOVELTY I’ve just been on a ‘‘Dreamer’s Holiday.” We took a ‘‘Mule Train” over to meet the ‘‘Chattanooga Choo- Choo.” When we got there the first person we met was the ‘‘Chattanooga Shoeshine Boy.” While crossing the street my little boy fell and I said, ‘‘Don’t Cry Joe.” We stayed at ‘‘A Cottage Small by a Waterfall.” That evening we attended the ‘‘William Tell Overture.” In the mid- dle of it a man must have lost his wife because he started to yell, ‘‘Bess, Where Is My Bess?” Then the usher came up to the lady next to me and said, ‘‘Put Your Shoes On, Lucy.” Being very insulted, she left after the overture. We sat ‘‘Down by the Old Mill Stream” and had ‘‘Tea for Two.” Later on we ‘‘Tiptoed Through the Tulips.” When we arrived home we found “Sweet Georgia Brown” sitting on our doorstep. She was crying and said, Wedding Bells Will Never Ring For Me,” because her boyfriend had been the groom in “The Wedding of Lily Mariane.” I told her she should be “Looking over a Four Leaf Clover” and to “Look for a Silver Lining.” She said she would “Let by-gones Be by-gones” and took a trip to “Okla- homa.” Then at “Three O’clock in the Morning” the people next door were having a party and a quartet was singing “Sweet Adeline.” In the morning the “Blue Birds of Happiness” were singing and I thought “It might as well be Spring,” because the “Lucky Old Sun” was shining so bright. A few hours later we got on a train and landed “Deep in the Heart of Texas.” While there we saw the “Gypsy” burning a bonfire and sing- ing “Smoke Gets in your Eyes.” Be- fore boarding the “Stanley Steamer” little Joe played in the “Mississippi Mud.” The .steamer took us up to “Chicago,” where we saw “The Man on the Flying Trapeeze.” Then we went to the “Sidewalks of New York.” Here we went to a Vaudeville Show starring “Annie Laurie” and “Robert E. Lee” in “Casey Lowered the Boom.” Later that day I took Joey to the Circus. Here we saw the Lion-trainer taking the fat lady for “An Old Fash- ioned Walk.” Joey said, “She’s too Fat for Me.” Later we met Frankie and Johnny,” who were “Strolling Through the Park.” At the Art Gallery we saw “The Old Master Painter” painting “Blue Skies” and “Three Blind Mice.” “Years and Years Ago” 1 saw a pret- ty painting painted by “Clementine.” While here we saw a girl dressed up in “Buttons and Bows” and it turned out to be “Old Susanna,” whom I hadn’t seen since “School Days.” She said she had been “Keeping the Sunny Side Up” and feeling fine. She asked me if I had seen “Margie” late- ly. She said she had heard her singing on a program called “For Me and My Gal.” After meeting Susanne, we went back to the hotel. My hair was all wind blown and I looked like a “Rag Mop.” We freshened up a bit and then took a walk down the street. While passing a building, we saw some men in there gambling. Joey asked what they were doing and I told him they were making some “Quicksilver.” As we passed one house a woman was pounding on the door of another home and yelling, “Open the Door Richard!” He opened the door and let her in and said, “I Shouldn’t Do It” but you know “Sentimental Me.” I was getting tired and decided 1 would go home. Joey said, “I Want to go Home with You.” My vacation is coming to a close, but I’m glad to get back to Shenango Township, because “I Love Those Gentle People.” I’ll be seeing you “When the Moon Comes over the Mountain.” “Yours Till the End of Time,” “Chloe” CAN YOU IMAGINE 1.
