,199 N ,699 fd!!! N sux, .1 JMLLZLJETECJ Gqfivz On February 5, 1942, the Senior Class presented a mystery-comedy, Murdered Alive, under the capable direction of Mrs. Thelma Smith Hoovler. The action of the play took place at Hillcrest, the estate of the wealthy Marvin Ryder, who was supposed to have been killed in an auto- mobile accident. Mr. Ryder's lawyer summoned all the heirs to the Ryder mansion for the reading of the will. They arrived ahead of time, and experienced a mysterious and exciting time while awaiting the arrival of the lawyer. The reading of the will deepened the mystery, for in it Mr. Ryder men- tioned that he was going to be murdered, and even set aside a sum of 810,000 for the person who would find his murderer. Acton Chance, a fifth-rate detective, tried to solve all the mysteries, only to iind himself abducted from the scene. Throughout the play the chimes of clocks that had not been wound, the howling wind, the screams, the ringing of the telephone, and the mes- sages from the spirit world added horror to the already gruesome atmos- phere. When the mystery was deepest, Marvin Ryder appeared, quite alive and glad to be home. He easily explained the strange circumstances surrounding his supposed death. Mr. Warner Melton, assistant to Mr. Ryder, gave a full explanation concerning the strange and weird actions of the night. Tired nerves were relieved, and the play ended in romance for the majority of the characters. CAST OF CHARACTERS Mrs. Libby Ryder- r.,. sFlorence Badger Warner Meltonm, ,AC,. uniofz QDKQL The Juniors presented their play, Uncle Cy Hits a New High, early in the spring of the year. The play took place in the lounge, a general sittingroom, aboard the Steamship Happiness, which was sailing for England. Harmon Richard- son, a reputed millionaire, had engaged the bridal suite of The Happiness because he was going to elope with pretty and attractive Star Kern. In the first act Paul Sapp, Richardson's private secretary, was im- patiently awaiting the arrival of his employer and the latter's bride when he received word that Mr. Richardson had been in a motor crash and Wouldn't be able to make the sailing. His wedding was also postponed. Paul was in despair because he knew that if Richardson wasn't in London within two weeks it would mean the loss of a huge sum of money for his employer. He was about to leave the boat in despair when Uncle Cy Sapp from Pun'kin Center, Arizona, rushed in unexpectedly. Uncle Cy had come to New York to pay Paul a surprise visitg and when he learned that his nephew was sailing for England, he came down to the boat to see him off. Paul insisted that Uncle Cy make the journey with him to London and impersonate the wealthy Harmon Richardson. Uncle Cy was forced into his new role much against his will and never dreamed that he was going to be exposed to all sorts of trials and tribulations. When Star Kern's Aunt Winona, who disliked all men, learned that her niece was planning to marry Harmon Richardson she rushed aboard The Happiness and, thinking Uncle Cy is Harmon Richardson whom she had not seen, let loose a barrage of wrath that threatened to snow poor Uncle Cy under, The result was a battle of wits that produced three acts of unbridled fun during which time Aunt Winona fell off the boat into the ocean, and Uncle Cy was forced to don female attire. , ,C ,,0f',,f'f
