Student Council WK wt, xx Sta dim: Hoy Hol s Brmk Seated Ifoutch Cla er Ly n H s Zmm Fostertng better relat1onsh1ps between the students and faculty 1S the Ob1eCl1Ve of the Student Councll The councll IS composed ol the tour class presldents and one other representatlve from each of the classes wlth Prln clpal A S Carlsen as faculty representatwe Elect1ons of new class olflcers were conducted at the beglnnlng of the term by the Student Councll ol the prev1ous year New Student Councll members presented a program rn October called Know Your School over KMA The purpose of the program was to explam the extra curncular act1v1t1es of our school Alurnm of SHS were 1nv1ted to the annual Hornecomrng Dance at wh1ch tlme the I-lomecommg Queen and her Attendants were crowned wh1ch was sponsored by the Student Councrl and held at the be-autltully decorated Elks Club Thls group also carrled out the tradltlonal Wh1te Chr1stmas Students were encouraged to brmg gllts, wrapped 1n whtte paper, for the people ln the County Home near Clarlnda An extravagantly decorated tree was placed IH the hall to add to the Chrlstmas sp1r1t A Whlte Chrlstmas Dance was also held at the Elks Club alter a game An extra servlce to the school and communlty was performed by councll members when they served as ushers at the annual Open House ln March Ottlcers of the group were Presldent, hm Foutch, Vlce Presldent, Carol Zimrnerg Secretary-Treasurer, Gloria Cleaverg and Sponsor, Mr. Carlsen. llOl

Representative Boy and Curl IIM FOUTCH NANCY RICE Iim Foutch and Nancy Rice were chosen as representative students of the Class of 54 on the basis that they were representative of the student body in both curricular and extra curricular activities that they best exemplify the highest ideals and standards of the senior class and that they possess the following traits character leadership scholarship personality reliability and the courage to do right regardless of outcome to self or friends Iim was honored in his senior year by being elected president of his class and as president of the Student Council he fulfilled his dutes faithfully and well He was a member of both Drivers Club and Key Club his Junior and senior years While a 1un1or he was elected as one of the representatives to Hawkeye Boys State Iim played football all tour years and lettered the last two making him eligible to membership in the S Club for those years This past year hm was elected by the members of the S Club to serve as Vice president of the organization Nancy s most prominent activities have been centered around the music department where she has been a member of freshman sextet mixed chorus and girls glee for four years and ot the madrigal her senior year Acting as student director for the Junior class play Nancy became a member of Thes plans and The Masque and Dagger Society During her Junior year she had the honor of being chosen to Hawkeye Girls State by the local American Legion Auxiliary Because ot her qualities of leadership Nancy was elected as a class officer her freshman year and as treasurer ol the Y Teens this past year. Other interests were reflected through her active membership in Y- Teens Cadet Teachers Shen-Hi-Can Quill and Scroll Pep Club and as senior editor of the Shenandoah. l12l
