After twelve days of constant steaming we joyously entered the beautiful harbor at Palma Mallorca and prepared to relieve our sister ship U.S.S. CASCADE. Although our stay in Palma was short, we readily found that Palma is truly the Miami of Spain. With its excellent and fashionable hotels, its gay shops and quaint sidewalk cafes and exotic beaches. Tours were in order to the Caves of Drach and surrounding communi- ties. The countryside was very colorful with the myriads of pastel wind- mills and abundantly verdant crops. Palma is a popular port of call of all ships of the Sixth Fleet and as we departed from this splendid port we were outspoken in our desires to re- turn here, possibly to await our relief. 13
