A lot of students got into the action with eye-catching out- Hts such as redfpurple striped pants, an orange shirt, and a pair of pink tennis shoes. For a day Shelton High must have seemed very color-blind to the rest of the world. The Class of '83 got along well this year with a little bit different kind of gov- ernment. Different than in previous years, because it was all female , Tammy Bernert was elected the Hrst fe- male president in three years. And con- sidering there was no class advisor to hel them out, the class ofHcers really didptheir job . . . AND THEN SOME! It's been said, The junior year is the BEST year in high school. The reason being because juniors could still boss around the freshmen and sophomores and then not have to worry about all the graduation hassles seniors are faced with. But the juniors not only proved that they could be successful juniors of '82, they have also shown they'd make EXCELLENT SENIORS OE '8.3l if Elaine Blakely Steve Brown W L. It was debatable, though, on whether class competition would be allowed in future assemblies. The students would get so rowdy that they'd stomp on the bleachers to add extra noise with danger of them collaps- ing. Another concern was that the students needed to be more uniHed for Shelton High as a whole, not just their own classes. With each class competing against each other at as- sem blies they tended to forget that the cheer is really, . . . all for SHELTON stand up and holler! They selected class rings and class colors. They also spent a lot of time raising funds by run- ning the girls basketball concessions and also the little lea ue concessions in the summer, They were a so involved in cake raffles and car washes. It seems very ap arent that this is a class that believes in stu ent involvement and achievement. The Sophomore class would like to thank Mr. Pete Ianda for the outstandingjob he had done in aidin the class this year. He has been a most vairable asset to the class. But to others, it is an accomplishment that takes heavy strides to meet. ln this par- ticular school year, finances were the staff's major obstacle. Before they could even attempt to raise money for the current Saghalie, a deficit of approximately 59,000 had to be paid from debts of pre- vious years, so cutbacks were made, and a new outlook was set forth. Participation was the key. And as it is well known to be, group effort is hard to find. But it seems that if the group has an ad- visor such as Mr. Peterson, results do appear. Besides the ladies being the best they've ever managed, the attendance was up con- siderably, compared to recent years. The B.R.A. was a real supporter there. Railroad Avenue was the place to be. gk The annual event was entered by more than 100 participants. Bands and drill teams streamed down the avenue, blaring out foot- stomping tunes. The Queen 's float, rode proudly by the Forest Festival Queen Molly Eveleth, glided gracefully in front of the crowds. john Archer's Paul Bunyan portray- al was a grande spectacle as he towered above the shiny log truck. Paul Barger pa- raded as Smokey the Bear. Other entrants included numerous Shelton business representatives, horses, local clubs, and school floats. Shelton High 's own band was one of the winners by placing second and the SHS drill team accomplished third. Overall, Shelton 's acceptance of an evening parade began a new tradition for the Forest Festival celebration.
