During February, when the mountains were capped with snow, the modern Shakespeares enacted the fairy tale, Hansel and Gretelf' The talent of this growing class did not stop with dramatics, for they also showed much ability in the m department. About a third of the junior high band half of the members of the two junior high glee cl were freshmen. Head coach Frank Willard used all :he players he could in each game to give them a chance to gain experience. This new practice in junior high should give the high school more material to pick from next year. BASEBALL This year's junior high baseball team has scheduled mme and home series with Olympia, Centralia, St. Mar- :in's, and South Kitsap. Ron' V lmguer, High Passes The 1931 Highclimber football squad started slowly but, as the season progressed, gained momen- tum under the willing and capable hands of head coach Ray Patrick and his assistants, Chet Dombroski and Harold Wilson. 1n the Jamboree held at Hoquiam the Red and Black of Shelton looked impressive in tying Elma and Raymond in scoreless deadlocks, although a fum- ble on the two- foot line cost the Climbers a touchdown and possible victory over Raymond. 1V1oving to Qlympia the following week, the Highclimbers were dealt a severe setback at the hands of the Bears, being on the short end of a 31 to 0 score. She1ton's first league encounter was with E1ma's fixture league champs. Outplaying the Eagles almost the entire game the Climbers lost a heartbreaker 12 to 6 as Elma scored the winning touchdown with one second remaining in the game. Journeying across the Olympics to play the pow- erful Port Townsend Redskins, the Red and Black lost a non-league contest 34 to 13. Snapping their losing streak at three straight the Climber Varsity tied the Seagulls of Raymond 12 to 12. The first Shelton victory of the season came at the expense of the Montesano Bulldogs 24 to 13. It was the First win for the Highclimbers over the Bull- dogs since 1946. 1V1oving outside the Central League for their next encounter the Red and Black defeated the Vikings of North Kitsap 7 to 0. The traditional homecoming game with St. Mar- tin's added a little spice to the 1951 grid season as the Climbers defeated the Rangers 13 to 6. The 1-Iiqhclimbers traveled to Clit-halis for the final game of the year. The luck charm Shelton had held over Chehalis for two years finally was broken as the Climbers went down to defeat in a thriller, los- ing their final game of the year 13 to 12. Mountain Climbers Coach 1Dombros1ci's hoopsters enjoyed a good 1952 season, registering ten wins against eight losses and p1acing fourth in the league. The C1imbers opened the season with a thriller, edging out Auburn on the home court in overtime, 40-38, and then proceeded to give sound beatings to two other non-conference foes, Yelm and Central Kitsap. The Port Angeles Roughriders, who placed lifth in the state tournament, came to town and handed the Climbers their Hrst setback, 46-28. Traveling up the peninsula for a return game, the Climbers were again turned baclc, this time 67-41. ln the first league game 7-foot Z-inch Gary Nel- son proved too much for the shorter Climbers and the Eagles pulled out a 53-40 victory. Che1ia1is also snow- ed the Climbers under with a 58-38 win. The boys from Shelton won their first league victory, 54-48, at the expense of the Montesano Bull- dogs. Raymond's high-flying Gulls came next and were nearly upset by the Climbers. At the St. 1V1artin's gym the Rangers put up a good scrap despite a 46-38 defeat. Then Raymond came to town and the Gulls added another victory, 62-56. Next, Elma visited the Highelimber gym expect- ing another victory. However, the Climber ball con- trol strategy gave the Eagles a 44-41 defeat. Again the Chehalis Bearcats proved to be the better of the two teams, talcing a 51-41 verdict at Chehalis. The game at Nlontesano was by all odds suppos- ed to be a close one. but the Climbers found the Bull- dogs to their 1i1cing and hit 61 per cent of their shots in the first half, turning the game into a rout. Wili- ning 58-20, the Climbers established a new scoring record. The Red and l31ac1c brought the season success- fully to a close by beating the St. 1V1artin's Rangers. ll Sqima' limkel- luill Ron' I: Sll't't1V- zizgen, Mtmlee. l't1l- Ierimi, Nfikfelfiim, ftvliiimri, l'mfl.
