Y ,' Senior Class Pla The Night of January 16th, a three-act mystery comedy, was presented by the Senior class February 24, in the junior high school auditorium. The setting for this unusual play was in the Superior Court of New York City. The cast very successfully created just the right atmosphere in the tense court- room. An actual jury chosen from the audience came to a startling verdict. The case on trial was for the murder of a wealthy man who died the night of January 16th. His mangled body was found on the pavement far below his luxurious pent-house apartment in New York City. Was it murder or suicide? But why would Bjarn Faulkner, who lived so greatly, want to end his life? Who would want to murder him, his wife, his secretary or his father-in- law? And then again was it really his body '? These were just a few of the many questions answered during the court procedure. The only answer needed was who could the guilty one be? Because of the splendid performance by the cast, the play was presented again March 11, by popular request. Junlor Class Pla We Shook the Family Tree, directed by Mr. W'il- lard Rublin, not only rocked the school but also the whole population of Shelton. Two casts were chosen: however, some players took part in both the matinee and evening performances. The mischievous Hildegarde Dolson, portrayed by Margaret VValton, was a constant source of worry and amusement. Deb Getty, as Short- pants Freddie, provided plenty of laughs in his never- ending battle with his mother tlrene XVynn, Anna May Jost! over the issue, short or long pants. Hildegarde's brothers 4Darwin Chesley, Larry Giddingsv were al- ways in a stew over their sister's doings. as were also their girl friends lNorma Davidson and Joyce Holt. Martha Palmer and Joyce Lockwoodl. Sally tAnn Hul- bert. Juanita Cross! followed her sister's suit exactly. Charles Brown and Gloria Steen Donna Demmon, as Mr, and Mrs. Dolson. thought they had their children well in hand until a little neighbor girl 'Mary Pettyl got possession of their old love letters. The hectic fol- lowings in which Mr. Dolson was almost fired from his position in the bank by Freddie's father fGene Horst. Ed XVhitel concluded the satisfying entertainment. if bf ON THE UP BEAT mlcmmgmgammmmmmimbi .ILQLQIL 'll1BC.O.lL,.. - I 9 Hi li otes The l9-19 Shelton Highclimber team won eight games and lost six. putting them in fourth place in league standings. The Climbers found trouble at Aberdeen in their first game when the Bobcats, led by big Tony Vlastelica, trounced the Shelton quintet 47 to 29. The second and most thrilling contest of the season was played with the Cen- tralia Tigers on the local maple court, The Climbers led through the entire game until the last two minutes when the Tigers tied up the contest and Urqehart of Centralia bucketed one to put the visitors ahead. Vasbinder tied up the score and sent the game into overtime, but the Tigers squeezed out a 34 to 33 victory. In another close contest on the home floor, the Red and Black found their first victim in the Montesano Bulldogs, winning 24 to 22. Down at Raymond, after trailing during the whole first half, the Climbers pulled up even at 441 to 4tt in the fourth quarter and Norm Huck potted one to cinch the game. which ended Shelton 44, Raymond 40. Olympia's Bears were undefeated and the Climbers just couldnt keep up with the Capitol City boys as they walloped the Red and Black at Olympia, 59 to 29. In another close contest, Shelton's mastery of Hoquianrs zone and man-to-man defense made possible a 39 to 37 victory by the Climbers. A trip to Centralia found the Climbers bowing to the Tigers, 48 to 28. Shelton's hoopmen battled the Montesano Bulldogs to a final count of 34 to 29. Montes accurate long shots gave them the lead in the first half, but the Climbers finally found the basket in time to put the game on ice. The Climbers showed their real power for the first time as they rolled up a 52 to 30 win over the Raymond Seagulls in the local gym, Leaping VVayne Clary led the scoring with 17 markers. Shelton next rolled over the Elma Eagles, 47 to 31. A 57 to 53 thriller with Hoquiam made it four victories in a row as the Climbers, leading until the third quarter, went 5 points behind and then pulled ahead to win in the closing minutes. Bob Tobey potted 23 points to lead the scoring, followed by Clary with 19. In their toughest cage battle of the season, the Climbers dropped a 62 to 31 decision to the Olympia Rears on the local boards. After a slow start the Climbers pulled away from the Elma Eagles to defeat them 49 to 34 in the game played on I-Ilma's floor. Just to prove they could still do it, the Aberdeen Bobcats sewed up the basket- ball season by swamping the Climbers 47 to 28, the same score as their previous contest. The unstoppable Vlastelica of Aberdeen poured in 24 points to set a new league scoring mark of 279. BASKETB.-xl I.. lSet'ond Tenmt. Ron I: Hrvhnieyvr. llflzrc. Lund. IDi.1'l'ldtU71, Dale. Hatter.
