We were happy to find that many actixities were offered to us which served to broaden our insight and appreciation of a true culture. These were in the form of clubs such as the pep math art and band groups, These and all other similar organizations helped us by providing different learning experiences such as informal talks and personal participation in many worthwhile activities. As we progressed, a change took place that deepened our understanding of life itself. It was in the form of a loss: Mr. Tarbell had to leave us, and the torch which now showed some brightness and light was handed to our new principal, Mr. john Freiheit, who in turn urged us to continue the good work in keeping it aflame. Finally, we have come to the end of our stay at school, and we look back with pride at a job well done. We can now see the torch burning brighter than ever, symbolic of the four years of loving care which we gave it. The long hours of grueling work paid off as the Gallop- ing Gaels added the final link to the chain of five victories needed to secure the long sought-after Seymour Trophy awarded by the Seymour Knights of Columbus. But as the season rolled along, it became evident that the light warriors from Shelton were no match for the heavier, more experienced schools teams. Although this season was not among the best, it will long be remembered, for it was this year that we gained permanent possession of the Sidney Blumenthal Trophy in the annual Shelton-Derby Thanksgiving Day game. During the first few weeks practice had to be held in the high school gymnasium due to inclement weatherg but soon it took place outdoors, and the baseball season began in full swing. Although it was a green club, we had six returning letter men who made the outlook hopeful. Coaches Murray, Skibo, and Frager plan to have their nucleus centered around Jordan and Ragozzine. Something new may be added to baseball this year, possibly cheerleaders, who will add to the enthusiasm and espirit de corps of the team. ,Q r Yaifvm ' f' V199 YM vb . 2: ,hw . aww' V. gf, arf- ' A rx Ma 7 L L ,f V. The stage was suitably decked with fragrant flowers and the members marched to the stage accompanied by the playing of Pomp and Circumstances It was indeed a most solemn and inspirational event, which both participants and their friends enjoyed. A banquet in honor of the occasion followed at which time an appropriate speech was made by Mr. Gennaro Mastrogiovanni, representative of the B, F. Goodrich Com- pany, which sponsors the National Honor Society. Mr. Zielinski and Mr. Rose, advisors, also spoke on the importance of the society.
