Class Prophecy h1s secretary DOROTHY ANDERSON to have the report submltted by DOROTHY DIDSBURY supermtendent of the Hollywood Hosp1tal for broken down mov1e stars checked and to postpone h1s appomtment w1th ANNA WALSH 1nvestment broker of the Authors Book League of wh1ch orgamza t1on SHIRLEY PLACE 15 presldent we were on our way When we arrlved at the Broadwood Country Club we were gutded to our table by the charm1ng dmmg room manager CARMELLA BRANGACCIO The next mornrng I left for Portland Oregon by tra1n On the observa t1on car I met DOROIHY SMITH who was 1nvest1gat1ng travel1ng condmons for the Interstate Commerce Comm1ss1on She told me that 1n her travels on the numerous rarlroad l1nes 1n the country she had met many of her classmates Two weeks prev1ous at the Lake of the Woods ln Northern Mlnnesota she lunched w1th TILLIE OLIWA onet1me queen of the dare devlls who was there look1ng for peace and qulet IRENE ZIMOLAG her compan1on and nurse was travellng w1th her On heanng that WILLIAM TAIVIBURRINO was our eng1neer I left to SGIISIY an old deslre to r1de 1n an eng1neer s cab The next mornmg on arr1v1ng 1n Portland I went dxrectly to M1nnos Turklsh Bath where after refreshmg my body I rem1n1sced w1th BOBBY MENUSTIK the propnetor Needlng a tooth brush I stopped at the f1rst drug store and was tempted by the appet1z1ng s1gns At the soda fountam CORA MARGARET TIERNEY served me w1th a very speclal double con coct1on Duly refreshed I started toward the buslness sect1on of the town The f1rst thmg to catch my eye was an elaborately decorated wlndow of one of the better department stores Iust 1ns1de the door was a large stock1ng counter surrounded by excxted women The exhausted saleslady hast1ly answerlng the demands of the customers was my old frlend and compamon ALICE FORTIER S1nce she was knee hlgh to a grasshopper her only amb1t1on had been to sell stocklngs Not havrng a chance to re new old acquamtance I declded to v1s1t the mus1c department wh1ch was 1n the basement Be1ng one of the b1gger stores It employed a p1ano player to xntroduce all the latest h1t songs The pramst whose f1ngers ghded sklllfully over the keys seemed famxllar and yet I could not place her As I drew nearer the p1ano I could see that 1t was FRANCES WIL LIAMS who evldently has made good use of her muslcal knowledge Because I was beg1nn1ng to feel a b1t dlsheveled I V1S1l9d the beauty salon managed by BETTY FINN the famous beauty expert One of her steadlest customers IIMMY PETERSON was gettxng lnformatron concern 1ng the cond1t1on and care of hls curly ha1r These treatments seem qu1te beneflcral for h1s haxr do has retalned 1lS qual1ty and quant1ty Whlle 1n the salon I prcked up a book ent1tled How to Bluff and St1ll Surv1ve wrltten by TOMMY SAVARLSE It surprlsed me to learn that he had wr1t1ng ab1l1ty On my way back to the hotel a lrttle boy approached me and humbly begged for a small contr1but1on wh1ch would go 1nto MCCLOSKEYS Fund for Homeless Boys He has dedlcated h1s l1fe to char1ty for ch1ldren I ment1oned th1s to HELEN KALINOWSKI who was here attendlng a conventlon of the embalmers of the country Her fa1thful ass1stant HELEN PECYLAK had been left beh1nd m Bndgeport to carry on unt1l her boss got back I was bored w1th myself and tr1ed to fmd a trave11ng compan1on One d1d turn up DONALD BLESSING who had just dec1ded he was t1red of chauffeurrng others agreed to come along as far as Seattle En route we stopped at a lxttle ways1de shoppe owned and operated by MILDRED l 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 ' 1 . 1 1 . 1 1 - ' . ,1 . . . . . . 1 - 1 1 - 1 1 1 1 ' 1 - 1 , . 1 - 1 . . . . . . , 1 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 - 1 . 1 - 1 1 - 1 - 1 1 . , ' , . 1 , . 1 1 ' 1 ' ' . . 11 - - 11 1 1 1 . -1 . , . . . - 1 1 1 - 1 , . f 0

Class Prophecy COMCOWICH tap dancer extraordrnary I lea ned that thrs was the brrth place of that popular club woman DOROTHY HEUSSER From here I journeyed DY tram We stopped rn a lrttle town rn Texas to refuel As thrs would take about a half hour I dropped rn on a rodeo There astr1de a buckrng bronco was THELMA ZAK champron cowgrrl DR IOHN MIRALLES and hrs ambulance drrver HELEN DUBRAVA stood by rn case of drsaster Leavmg the tram at the border of Texas and MEXICO I hrred a gulde and a donkey to take me to Chrhuahua where I met the fam d explorer EMIL WALCEK and hunter ANGELO COTS Walcek had found a lost c1ty 1n whlch place Cots had drscovered a rare anrmal Papacotablll They had returned 1n order to rarse funds to contrnue the1r exploratlons One week of travel ln thrs fashron was enough for me I flew to Tam prco the Mexrcan port on the Gulf where I could get a boat and contmue my tr1p I had the pleasure of gorng through the canal rn Nrcaragua cently completed by engrneer ERNIE SPEY We steamed along the coast of Calrfornra and rnto the Golden Gate After d1sembark1ng and checkrng my luggage through to the hotel I wandered around Soon I not1ced that trafflc was movrng very slowly A mob surroundmg the Strand theater was the reason The feature attractron was the personal appearance of MICHAEL CASSO leadmg man rn The Lrves Ive Led and RUTH VON WERDER and NANCY CAWTHRA as the or1g1nal Brenda and Cobrna ALBERT CLARKE was complamrng to Offrcer MARSHALL WILLIAMS that the congestron was detrrmental o busmess at hrs gas statron I walked back wxth hrm and notrced two large bllboards one of Whrch proclarmed to the publlc that HANNAH BROWN and dyelng busmess On the other was a prcture of WINONA TICE whose charm1ng smrle was advertrsrng Trces toothbrush Gomg closer I notrced rn the corner the name of MARY MITEL who has garned fame as a brllboard QIIISI Soon I came to a resrdentral sectlon As I walked up the street I heard sounds emanatrng from a radro I rang the frrst doorbell and the lady of the house IULIA WARECKE 1nv1ted me 1n to lrsten to MARGARET SAVIGNANO broadcastrng the news of the day from New York After chattrng a few moments Wlth my former classmate I proceeded on my way Not far away rn a garden I saw a flgure bendtng over a rose bush Advancrng up the path I recogmzed FRANCES KULLBERG She told me she was head gardener on the estate of the former DOT ROGOWSKI Cer tarnly nerther one needed help so wrth a brref word I left Dusk was begrnnmg to fall and as I was som what trred and hungry I turned rn the d1rect1on of my hotel Standrng before the entrance to a supermarket I noted IRENE HUSTI Cham store magnate g1v1ng orders to THEODORE FREDERICKS who was the manager of the western d1v1s1on A few steps further on I stopped to look rnto the wrndow of a beauty salon whrch fea tured IEAN STOCKMAL S Beauty Products known from coast to coast lust before entermg the hotel I notrced a crowd had gathered on the opposrte srde of the street Currous I crossed and found a slrght accrdent had occurred and IOSEPH HOPKINS reporter was trymg to get the de ta1ls but 1n va1n Havrng no deslre to be questloned I returned to th hotel where the bell boy BILL KOLISKO took my bags to my room Af er a brlef rest I left for drnner As I rounded the corner I met DONALD COCKS West Coast broker who 1I1SSl9d I yom hrm After telephonrng l I . 1 I . . - ' , e , .
