ll O In U16 shaoe Mr. Chilla skillfully constructs the scenery. George Albertus accompanies singers. 64 Mr. john conducts the orchestra during a dress rehearsal. 1100 in the Shade has been said to be 'fThe Rainmaker, plus music. The play is set in a western town which is suffering from a drought. It concerns a woman in her latter twenties who is trying, with lit- tle luck, to find a husband. She considers herself plain and unattractive. However, an imaginative young rainmaker', comes to town and sees her differently. He thinks she is beautiful and asks her to go away with him. In the meantime, the sheriff of the town has fallen for her inner beauty. Confronted with the two men who wish to marry her, she decides to stay in her home town, with the people she loves and the simple, ordinary life she is used to. The play, with director Patricia Gibson and assistant directors Laraine Eloranta and Kim Iohnsen, proved to be a smash, It was a sellout for all three nights and received a standing ovation on the third. Varied musical numbers and drama mixed with comedy made 1100 in the Shade another success for Sheldon. Mrs. Gibson watches the stage as Mrs. Blix gives helpful hints to the dancers. Marsha Foley designs Starbuck's wagon.
