Two of the more active clubs at Sheldon were the moun- tain and ski clubs. The ski club, very ably led by Nancy Dickson and ad- vised by Mr. Rassmussen, actively raised money by selling doughnuts and candy to finance their many trips. These trips included a weekend at Hoodoo as well as many Sun- day trips to round out the year's activities. Rain, clouds, wind and snow failed, most of the time, to keep the Irish Mountaineers from their activities. After an unsuccessful attempt early in the year to climb Three-Fingered Jack, members concentrated on conquer- ing Mt. Washington in eastern Oregon.

,4,4 Offers Scholarship GAA girls begin a practice game. The goals of the Girls, Athletic Association were to provide opportunities for girls to participate in physical fitness activities. These opportunities were provided through Sport Playdays, and afternoon and evening competition. For the first time in Shel- don's history, the GAA provided a S50 scholarship for any Sheldon girl inter- ested in majoring in phys- ical education or recrea- tion. Four competition sports were added this year: gymnastics, track, swim- ming and tennis. In addition to athletic ac- tivities GAA girls brought gifts which were taken to Skipworth Juvenile Home at Christmas. Ml 6 Trains hr Karcers Jill Wolf stretches for a point Speakers, movies and lively dis- cussions under the leadership of school nurse, Mrs. Jacob- sen, made an interesting and educational year for the mem- bers of the Future Medical Ca- reers Club. FMC provided opportunities for students to speak with, and learn from, doctors and pro- fessional nurses. Pat Willets concentrates on the intricacies of her mosaic top. 671655 gfllb Defmls the llmicfculablc The Art Club kept artistically inclined students busy with a variety of activities. One of these year-long projects included making fiscal calendars which were sold to teachers at the end of the school year. These calendars were designed and deco- rated by the Art Club members. The Sheldon Art Club displayed an Art Exhibit at the Eugene Public Library from January 19th to April 4th. Jim Clifford ponders the problem. Chess Club members were seen throughout the noon hours and before and after school practicing for tournaments. The team competed with many clubs throughout the district. With a combination of brains and strategy, Shel- don's chess team completed a very successful sea- son which ended with a victory over the unde- featablen Thurston, unbeaten in the last nine years.
