Western World The Sheldon Drama Department went from Brigadoon in Scotland to Mayo in Ireland for its spring production. The little out-of- the-way town of Mayo on the wild western coast of Ireland is visited by a shy stranger, Christy Mahon. Reluctantly he reveals that he killed his father and becomes a hero to the townspeople. Much to the dismay of Christy, his father arrives in Mayo with just a wound on his skull. Christy, in fear of losing his new found fame, tries to kill his father again. A murder in Mayo, however, is a different matter than a murder somewhere else, and the townspeople decide to hang Christy. Christy's supposedly dead father struggles into the inn, stopping the hanging. Christy, who by now likes the feeling of im- portance, informs his father he is the head of the household and leaves. Pegeen, who loves Christy, cries because she has lost the only Playboy of the Western World. The young women of Mayo marvel at Christy,s story of the murder Fiery Pegeen watches Widow Quinn make advances toward Christy. Christy cowers when he sees his father.
