Dave Olson, with the greatest of ease. The Sheldon Boys' Gymnastics team had a very successful season, winning five dual meets, losing two, and tying one. The team took 3rd in the Tongue Point Open, 2nd in District behind South Eugene, and 5th in State. Out- standing gymnasts included Dave Ol- son, who took lst in parallel bars and high bar, and 2nd in all-around in the district meet, and Bill Spiller, who won firsts in trampoline and floor exercise in both district and state. Next year will be rebuilding year for the Irish, due to the loss of valuable Seniors Bill Spiller, Dave Olson, Kent Stevens, and Cliff Hunter. Although it's depth was not great, the Girls' Gymnastics Team had a success- ful year. Two girls, Sandi Grossbach and Gayle Powell, went to state, win- ning 5th and 6th respectively. With good returning gymnasts and an in- creasing interest in girls, gymnastics, the team hopes to have a successful season next year. Bill Spiller exhibits strength and form. After a shaky start in non-league games, the team caught fire and finished undefeated in District 5-A-1 league play. Sheldon went on to win the playoff games with North Bend, 4-O and 9-2 to gain a berth in the state playoffs. The Irish next beat Klamath Falls 3-2 in 8 innings, and Bend lO-2 in 7 to carry them to the championship game. Losing 4-2 to Hillsboro, the team took 2nd place and became the first team in Sheldon's history to enter the state playoffs. The Irish placed four men on the All-Star team, including Terry Lee, pitcher, Don Smith, outfielder, Eddie Johnson, 3rd ,basemang and Jim Richardson, lst baseman. unior Dave Dingman was the winner of the Mel Krause Athletic Award.
