COMMUNITY BUILDING AND PARK The measure of a 11fe is not its duratron but 1ts donatron The Sheldon Prcnrc Assocration was organized in 1904 with W W Hughes as one of its great leaders Each and every year tents were rented for therr get to gethers but this proved to be expensrve as well as most mconvenient Several years later wrth W W Higgins Wm Steele Roy Holmes Ray Wrsehart and the presrdent Mr Frank Dale serving as board members formd that the treasury was bulging wtth four hundred dollars They conceived the idea of makmg a permanent home for the assocration and the request was granted July 7 1927 Mr N E McCoy then supenntendent of the Sheldon Public Schools and a lover of youth appeared before the board and offered hrs servrces to solicit funds so that the building would meet the needs of the commumty as the school building had no place for Fine Arts and Recreation This wish was granted and all was well and soon the home was established Scarcely was this dream a reality when fue destroyed most of this handiwork of the past months Yet many thought that this was a blessrng rn dl.Sgll1SC The crtizens true to the Sheldon spxrit arose to the occasion and by 1930 stood our Community Building with stage stage curtains and a greater seatmg capacity At the present many pass through its door every day in search of pleasure and knowledge May we all not forget to breathe a Thank You to all those who have passed on to the Great Beyond the Legion and to Mrs Bartholomees who steered the P T A through those weary months May we say rn closmg The best to you on this your GOLDEN IU BILEE
