Today's business world is a complex and exacting one. Blanche Ashby, Everett Brown, and Rita Fern Comstock, commercial teachers, offer instruction in the different busi- ness subjects-typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, business English, and general business. Typewriting, in its first year, attempts to develop a mastery of the keyboard of a standard typewriter by touch, speed in production and in typing straight copy is empha- sized in the second year. In the office practice part of the second year of typing, pupils also use key-driven and rotary business machines and a voice-writer. First year Gregg Shorthand students take dictation of practiced material and also of new material at varying speeds and transcribe shorthand notes in longhand. Stu- dents of the second year develop skill in the ability to take dictation at a gradually increasing rate of speed and with a satisfactory degree of accuracy. The teaching of the fundamentals of double entry book- keeping is done in the two-semester bookkeeping class of S. H. S. An introduction to filing, bookkeeping, business arith- metic, business terminology and letter writing, and com- mercial geography are a few of the encounterments made by general business and business English students.
