To represent our class in the king and Queen contest we chose Don Bruce and Nancy Furr, We will always remember the fun we had re-doing the English room for social danc- ing. Conficlentially, I heard that Miss Dintle- man couldn't find some of her books after it was all over. One dance we shall never forget was our lean iamboree with Vive LaRue, the famed balloon dancer. O . uo ............................ 6 . .......................... 7 S fi Peelou-our hero llll HE llll llUll llllllll The Shelby Rams have agaun found them selves on the football map Thus has been theur most successful season slnce l946 when they won four and lost fuve Throughout the season the Rams found themelves out welghed by almost every team Regardless of the fact that they were small they always had plenty of fnghtung spurut and at the end of the nune game season the Rams had won three lost fnve and tned one The furst game at Sullivan was mostly a see saw battle untnl the thnrd quarter when a short pass from Dove to Callander was completed for the only score The extra pomt was wade and the frnal score was 6 O The followmg week at Efflngham the Rams faced Parker and Monnet The game turned out to be a scorung battle but Effungham came out ahead 27 l9 Vandalna who had only played one year of How'm I dom? E, ai 5 6 7 31 'P' '36 It-.....,,, --4111: football, was the second victim of the Rams by the score of 12-O. Pana went stamping over the Rams and gave them a 26-7 defeat. Trying for revenge the Rams fought Hillsboro with everything they had, but in the last two minutes of the game the Hilltoppers scored the winning touchdown. The final score of that game was 2l -14 Litchfield was the Rams next opponent for the annual homecoming This was a give and take game but neuther team could go ahead and the game ended in a tue I9 l9 The following week the Taylorvllle Tornadoes swept through over and around the ranks of Shelby with a 37 O score lt was now Shelby Hugh s turn and they dealt out a 32 O victory over falling Kincaid The St Elmo game will be long remembered With the temperature at about 30 degrees the Rams tried to come back in the last few minutes of the game but the touchdown by Ha worth and Reed was not enough The extra point failed giving St Elmo a 7 6 decision Throughout the season the coach appointed a captain for each game At the end of the season Don Kensul and Arnold Furr were elected co captains for l9SO by their teammates These two boys played almost every minute of every game An outstanding senior guard Don Kensil who weighed only l45 pounds was able to make up for his lack of weight by being very aggressive The fine tackling of Arnold Furr gave the opponents backfield a bad time In every game At the close of the season the Booster Club held a chili supper for the team at which the most valu able player trophy which is presented annually by the local V F W was presented to Arnold Thomp son for his splendid work In carrying the ball for consistent gains and for his hard hitting tackling on defense Whenever the team needed a few yards Arnie was always able to wiggle squirm or sneak through the defense to get the needed yardage VARSITY FOOTBALL EMBLEMS John Metzger line Stan McKenzie line Leon Cutler line D0n Woods line Rodney Washburn me Clete Hmton-back Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior . h . . Mrs Wil loughby presented each girl with a red Throughout the year they had dances and food sales in order to earn money The junior group made over one hundred dollars by selling Christmas cards. How ever, the main high-light of the year was the play, Three Little Maids, which was presented in co-operation with the F F A and directed by Mr. Webb.
