Sophomore Class Hisfory When we enferecl High School in The fall of '32, we were scared pea green and pink. Those upper classmen did look so dignified! We had one famous characfer, Wimpy fhe l-lamburger-eafer, belfer known as Johnny Newlin, so we elecfed him presiclenf of our Freshman class. Mr. Gillespie organized a Freshman baskefball feam. lf was very successful! We finally blundered fhrough and our summer vaca- fion macle us wiser for our Sophomore year. We Sophomores again elecfed Wimpy presidenf. Clark Dove, who earned a name for himself by fripping people, was our vice presidenf and lvlargaref Alice Ward was fhe secrefary-freasurer. We had our fall picnic planned, fhe usual weiners and buns, and every fime we sfarfed out fhe rain poured down upon us, so we finished up by having a jolly old fime in fhe gym. And fhen one day, fime furned back and Shakespeare descended upon us in fhe form of some of our dear liffle classmafes. They enacfed a scene from fhe Merchanl' of Venice, wifh Clark Dove as fhe merchanf of Venice, Joy Carnes as Porfia and Dean Chrisfman as Shylock fhe Jew. We felf elafed when fhe casf for fhe opereffa, The Counf and fhe Co-ecl was chosen. Adlyn Phelps and lvlargoref Alice Ward had 'fhe girls' leads. and Earl Corley and Glen Waffon had imporranf roles. .Only one fhing, we did wish 'rhaf lvlargaref Alice and Earl had pracficed siffing on fhaf park bench a liffle more. Ancl now, as a parfing word, we wanf fo say fhaf we infend fo go on making a name for ourselves in our lasf fwo years of high school life. ll XXII XX!! XXIY XX mi gp l ,, .A f 7 ,1: 9
