' .' in 22 so 232: As we are nearing the completion of our senior year, we find ourselves striving even harder to make it one filled with pleasant memories which we know will be outstanding in our lives. We know this year's success has been due greatly to the excellent leadership of our officers, the wise counsel of our sponsors and Mr. Jett, and the co-operation of the class in general. From the beginning the class knew what its goals were for the year and the work involved in at- taining them. The officers who were elected last spring, assumed their duties in August, with Jim Martin as president. The other officers were Joe Williams, vice president, Carolyn Clanton, secretary, and Judy Parker, treasurer. Our class established the point system thus creating a wonderful coopera- tion among its members. Immediately, we began our money-making projects. On Friday and Saturday nights of the National Walking Horse Celebration we had a booth for baked goods. Members of the class donated the food and also volunteered to help sell it. Soon afterwards the elections were held for PTSA Representatives and Student Council members. The class chose Ardis Hunter, Sarah Lee Russell, Donny Williams, and Jim Stone to represent them in the PTSA meetings. Student Council members were Martha Cooper, Betty Jo Neese, Don Harrison, and Jim Stone. One of the big events each year is the Harvest Festival, at which a Harvest King and Queen are crowned. Our candidates were David Parks, and Sue Clift. David reigned over the festival with his queen, the freshman candidate, Connie Gowen. ln the annual magazine sales campaign, Gary Patton was high-salesman. Although the iuniors sold a few more subscriptions than we, the class response was excellent. At each of the home football games we Seniors sold popcorn, which added greatly to our treasury. The Homecoming Queen was Janis Orr, who is a senior and captain of the cheerleaders. The senior attendant was Martha Cooper. During the afternoon preceding the game, a parade was held, in which we entered a float. , The senior movies were always eagerly anticipated by all students. We have had some good movies this year, including Kim, The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell, and Student Prince. Our play, Mister Co-Ed, had perhaps the largest attendance of any presented in previous years. The cast and sponsors did an excellent iob. Probably the most delightful thing that can happen to a senior is to be elected a superlative or a member of the National Honor Society. As always, the seniors look forward to the prom, for this one is given for us! Also the superlatives were introduced and the king and queen were crowned. Throughout the year the encouragement and advice of our sponsors, Mr. Bracey, Mrs. Eakin, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Wallheiser, and Mr. Hull, have been invaluable. We are deeply grateful to them for everything. On April 29th we were Washington-bound! This event we had looked forward to and worked for since our freshman year. We left on Tuesday afternoon, and returned on Saturday, May 2nd. Following our return from Washington, everyone began cramming for the final exams. The initial Commencement exercise was Sunday night, May l7th. The Rev. Herschel Patton delivered the Baccalaureate sermon. Tuesday night, May 19th, found us marching down the aisle and receiving our diplomas, thus concluding our high school years. We would not have this year remain, neither would we have its memories drift far away.
