DEDICATION We, the editors of the SCARLET S, would like to honor two men who are held in high respect by the faculty and the student body. We would like to honor MH. HOWARD M. PLOCHEH and MR. HAROLD MARKIN. MR. HOWARD M. PLOCHER During the past seventeen years at Shelby through conscientious and diligent efforts Mr. Plocher has helped mold many present bus1 iness executives, secretaries, and office personnel. ln addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Plocher is also keeper of the books. He has charge of the special funds for the many clubs and organizations of the school. We express our thanks in making you one of the two to Whom our annual is dedicated. MR. HAROLD MARKIN Mr. Harold Markin has taught at Shelby for the past nineteen years. Through his sub- jects he has imparted to us a needed insight into our Way of life. His command of the classroom as well as his subtle humor and impartiality are recog- nized and appreciated by his students. As faculty manager for athletic events he has capably arranged the athletic schedules and secured the officials for all the games. For your understanding and your diligence in planning many events for us, we express our appreciation by making you a co-re- cipient of the dedication of this book.

Carmean has served as superintendent oi schools for the Shelby School District. This 1962- 1963 school year he has helped to promote a 1.9 mil- lion bond issue for a new high school which will be completed in the fall ot 1964. Choosing and advising the faculty and providing the best possible educational program keeps Mr. Carmean busy yet he always is avail- able to counsel any teacher or student who seeks his ad- vice.
