DR. E. D. DOWDS ln memory ot Dr. E. D. Dowds who passed away on January 9, 1962, just nine days after he started his tenth consecutive term as a member ot the Shelby City Board of Education. He had completed thirty-six years as a member. Dr. Dowds will always be remembered for his sincere interest in the young people of Shelby and his desire to make the Shelby Schools the best in the state.

DEDICATION MR. WAYNE F. POTTS We, the members of the yearbook staff, take great pride in dedicating the 1962 edition of the Scarlet S to a person well-known and well-liked by the student body, especially the seniors. For the past ll years, you have spent invaluable time and effort in helping to make our school atmosphere more pleasant. You have contributed much to our school spirit by supporting Shelby High School's sports events. And in time of need you have supplied us with extra go-power to help push our teams to victories. On account of your travels in the South, you have learned much, thus enabling your students to take full advanage of this knowledge. Our language facilities have been greatly expanded due to your leadership and willingness to further our educational interests. When our fourth year of high school comes to an end, you assist us in stepping into the future. Our class party, name cards, graduation ceremonies, and other senior routines are carried out faithfully by you. All of the members of the Class of 1962 include you in their memories of high school days. We wish to pay tribute to you, Mr. Wayne Potts.
