HI-Y The year l957A58 was the fourth year of activi- ties for the Shelby Hi-Y. The club was sponsored by the Shelby Family Y. M. C. A. under the di- rection of Mr. Harry Ter Braak, Y. Secretary, and Mr. james Shepherd, advisor for the club and a dirertor of the senior Y group. Among the activities sponsored by the Hi-Y were the following: selling pecans, sponsoring dances following the home football games, as- sisting in the Community Chest drive, and help- ing in the activities of thc Y. M. C. A. Together with the Tri-Hi-Y group they sponsored the Snowball , a formal dance during the Christ- lnilS SCZISOH. One of the highlights during the regular meet- ing sessions was a tour of The Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company in Mansfield. The club had rt membership of thirty-eight young men from the sophomore, junior, and sen- ior classes. An induction for the new members was held at The First Methodist Church on Sun- day evening, january 26, lll58. Dr. Stanley Shoe- maker, minister of the rlutrch, was the installa- tion speaker. BIOLOGY CLUB The Biology Club, entering its fourth year. holds its meetings regularly once a month under its advisor Miss Harryet Snyder. The regulation for the club is that each member must take a project to District Science Day at Bowling Green and those receiving I's go to the State Contest. All work on these projects must be done at home or before school. Some of the most popular pro- jects are blood study, animal dissections, scien- tific papers, one-celled animal study, embryolos gy, and bacteriology. During the year the club had such speakers as local doctors and laboratory teclmicians. This year special movies on polio and cancer were shown.
