BOYS' AND GIRLS' STATE Attending Girls' State was an experience we shall never forget, say Faye Sipe and Brenda Stock, who represented Shelby last june at Cap- ital University for the lltli session of Girls' State. For eight busy days over one thousand girls from every part of Ohio became friends and poli- ticians as we performed our various positions in the mock government. YVith some of the best and most capable leaders and advisors in Ohio, we learned not only government funclionings but also important responsibilities as future wo- men of America. Vlle were drawn closer to our government, our neighbor, and our God. lt's a week each girl should be able to live because she would always remember it. Last summer four Shelby High School boys at- tended Buckeye Boy's State at Camp Perry. The boys set up a government of their own and had a brief taste of parliamentary procedure. Each boy held some city, county, or state office: Carl lvinely, lawyer and a member of the State Pa- trol: jim Xvildman, City Health Commissioner, Jon Page, Safety Director, Charles Thurman, member of the l-louse of Representatives. Buck- eye Boys' State was divided into five countries each consisting of four cities. Entertainment was provided every evening at the auditorium. Guest speakers included Governor C. William O'Neil and last year's governor of Buckeye Boy's State. Lelt tn righl: Charles Thurman, .Ion Page, Faye Sipe, Brenda Stork, Carl Winely, and james W ildman.
