THE UPENINE DAY UF SCHUUL It was one o-'clock-the day was hot-the first day of school had arrived. One by one the pupils of Shelby High School struggled to gain entrance into the auditorium. They waited until the principal came to officially open the new school year. The auditorium looked wonderful. During the summer months the school staff had worked to repaint the entire auditorium and the gymnasium. It was good to view the attractive decorations around the stage. The walls were clean and attractive. The floors were shiny. The inevitable had come. September 7, 1948-Tuesday-that day will live in the memory of all the seniors. That day was the last opening day which the seniors would attend at Shelby High School. With this in mind, the yearbook has been arranged to give each senior and each pupil attending this school a pictorial account and review of the hap- penings of the school year 1948-1949.
