Musicians honored Norma Kula receives a band manager award from Mr. layher. Ms. Kucera gives awards to Rachael Ga- bel, Tina Galles. Karla Spitz, and Nancy Vrbka. Tammy Bodtke plays for the jazz band. While waiting for the food. Tammy Bodtke, Tricia Davis, Robin Hernbloom. and Ronnette Lewis talk at the Music Ban- quet. The music Banquet was on Monday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Layher and Ms. Kucera handed out Junior High and Senior High Awards. Perfor- mances were then given by the following groups: Eighth Grade Chorus. Fifth Grade Band, Junior High Band, Junior High Jazz Band, High School Jazz Band, High School Chorus- and the High School Band.

Two unique events took place at the 1988 Athletic Banquet. First, Coaches O'Brien and Jurrens were presented awards to recognize their coaching achievements. Second, Mr. Herman Gerdes, representing the new Booster Club, spoke about the accomplishments and purpose of the group. The 1988 Athletic Banquet was held March 22. About 250 people were of coaches, athletes recognized SENIORS- Seniors listen to speech. Ronnette Lew- is. Rick Luchsinger. Tricia Davis, Robin Hernbloom, and Bryce Cockson. present. The theme was “In the Spot- light. The banquet started off with Denise Rinkol and Julie Hegi giving the wel- come and Sandra Cyza the prayer. A pot luck dinner was held. After the dinner, Cletus Fisher, a for- mer assistant football coach at the University of Nebraska, gave a few words to all the athletes and parents present. Then a representative from Franklin Life Insurance handed out plaques to Mr. Jurrens and Mr. O'Brien for doing outstanding jobs of coach- ing. Russ Hopwood and Allen Smith, foot- ball captains, summed up the season for the crowd; Coach O'Brien gave out awards. Kimberly Zoerb described the volley- ball season and Coach Jurrens handed out awards Again Allen Smith and Russ Hopwood were at the stand, recap- ping the boys basketball season. Coach Fusco presented awards. Melanie Lockman, Norma Kula and Tricia Davis summed up the girls bas- ketball season. Mr. O'Brien passed out 26 TOP: Basketball Captains- Melanie Lockman. Chris Cyza. Kristi Carlson. Aaron Micek. Lori Rinkol. Aaron Scow, and Mary Cyza. S nior Royalty Rrom 1983 The senior prom king and queen for 1988 were T.J. Rathjen and Sandra Cyza. The junior king and queen were Jeff Mitchell and Laura Cyza. After the coronation the dance was held in the gym from 9-12. A live band, The Deal , was chosen by the juniors for the dance. Their performance dis- tinguished the event from the past several years. Earlier in the evening, the juniors, seniors, and teachers were treated to a prime rib dinner catered by the A8tB. Prom servers were freshmen Kristi Carl- son, Lori Rinkol, Mary Cyza, Teri Augus- tin, Mark Smith, Aaron Micek, Chris Cyza, and Aaron Scow. The welcome for the April 29 Prom was given by Melanie Lockman. The senior response was given by Brenda Gerdes and the prayer was read by Laura Cyza.
