Husky '86 ROYAL FLUSH The 1985- 198t Yearbook theme A Royal Flush'' was chosen by the Year- book Staff because we feel that the memories we have can never be dealt again. The following pictures represent us in what we have done in the past year. When we look back at these pictures in the years to come, wc will remember all the happiness and sorrows of our year. For these reasons, our theme A Royal Flush,” we feel, is appropriate. These memories can never be topped. Staff: Denise Reisdorff Todd Heimer Shane Rathje Greg Boruch Rob Bomburgei Sharon Bonsack Advisor: Mr. Euteneuer Remember when . . In October of 1978, Bob Eller had a Halloween party for the fifth grade class. We bombed for apples, told scary stories, and went through a haunted house. These are some pictures from that party, and some of the memories that we will never forget. Opponents in both games held the Huskies scoreless. On September 20, Shelby traveled to Strombsburg. This was a turning point in the 85 season. A fired-up Shelby team handed Stromsburg a 22 to 6 conference loss. This spurred a four game winning streak. After beating Stromsburg, Shelby beat East Butler 52 to 6 to top off the Homecom- ing week. Osceola and Fullerton also fell to the Huskies, giving Shelby four confer- ence wins. Shelby then faced a tough David City team. After a hard-fought battle Shelby was beaten 25 to 8. Nebraska EV Lutheran was next on the schedule. Knowing that a State Playoff Berth was on the line, Shelby beat Lutheran 20 to 0. Next came a very tough Dorchester team. Dorchester was victorious over Shelby by a score of 21 to 0. Shelby ended up with a 5-4 record for the regular season. Next came state playoffs. In the first round Shelby met up with Stromsburg for a second time. Once again Shelby walked away with the win, 22 to 7. The second round wasn't so easy. Shelby met up with number-1 ranked Yutan. With about 4 minutes left Yutan scored a touchdown and a 2 point conversion to go ahead and win 15 to 8. High points of the season included the wins over Stromsburg and Osceola. In All-Conference voting, 3 Huskies received 1st team honors including; Todd Hiemer-Running Back, Defen- sive Linebacker, Shane Rathje-Offensive Tackle, Terry Vrbka-Defensive Linebacker. Huskies receiving All-Con- ference Honorable Mention included; Bill Coffin-running Back, Defensive Back, Larry Tworek-Center. Terry Vrbka-Kicker, Mike Scow-Defensive Lineman, Shane Rathje-Defensive End, Chad Abbott-Defensive Back. Ter- ry Vrbka and Todd Hiemer also received Omaha World Herald All-State Honorable Mention at Defensive Line- backers. Shelby Huskies' head football coach John O'Brien said that 1985 football season was a very rewarding one. The slow start was one disappointment. However, a few key players began to assume the needed leadership and helped to make the season a good and pleasurable one. Qualifying for the C-2 State Playoffs, and then doing as well as we did in the two games, was a great plus. Coach O'Brien says qualifying for play-offs was definitey an indication of the teams effort and desire to play well. It will be remembered as a good football team 25 On Monday, August 19, 30 girls re- ported for the start of the 1985 volleyball season. Everyone on the team had high hopes for the season. The season started out tough with the Stromsburg Vikings. The Lady Huskies lost their season opener in three sets 15- 6, 9-15, and 8-15. After losing two hard fought games to Fullerton and Nebraska Lutheran, Shelby picked up it's first win of the season against Genoa on a 16-14 and 15-12 decision. The Lady Huskies picked up their second win of the season against St. Ed. winning 15-9 and 15-13. At this point things were starting to look good for the Huskies. The next event was the David City Tournament where things seemed to go wrong for the Huskies as they lost both their games. After beating Silver Creek, the Lady Huskies went on to lose the next three games to Clarks, East Butler, and Os- ceola. Then it was the Central Eight Confer- ence Tournament. Shelby lost it's first game in three tough sets with Fullerton on scores of 15-3, 4-15, and 7-15. Shelby lost the next two games to David City and Palmer and ended up with a regular season record of 3 and 8 The next game Hofba(Jer Elec|r|c of the season was districts with a loss to Osceola.
