Girls GRC Champs The Lady Huskies did a fine job in Bringing Out Their Best this season ending up with a record of 16-4. The team started practice August 15 with 37 girls determined to make this the Best season they possibly could. The team also had a new assistant coach, Dan Schnoes, who was well likec and adapted very well for his first time coaching. The girls had three weeks to prepare for the first game of the season against Stromsburg. The team must have done a good job in preparing for the game as they beat Stromsburg 15-3, 15-10. Keeping the spirit going entering the SCC Milford Invitational Tournament, the girls were facing a new experience, because they had never been in this tournament before and would meet some tough competition. The tournament was an all day event. The girls met Hebron in the first round of play beating them 15-8, 15-12. The next game was against Milford and the girls took their first loss of the season in three long sets 9-15, 16-15, 15-17. The team then had to play Lincoln Christian, losing 12-15, 3-15. The gills' next big games were in the David City Invitational Tournament where they took third place. Receiving honors in the tournament were Teresa O'Brien and Tami Hegi, first team all tournament, and Lorrie Bilstein, honorable mention. The next big event for the girls was the Goldenrod Conference Tournament. For the second year in a row the girls came home with first place. Chosen for the Goldenrod Tournament Team were Teresa O'Brien and Lorrie Bilstein, first team; and Tami Hegi, second team. Seeded first for the district tournament held in Osceola, the girls again came home with the first place trophy. This advanced the girls to the regional playoff where the girls met Deshler to see who would advance to the state tournaments. Unfortunately the girls just couldn't seem to get things to go their way, losing 13-15, 12-15. Coach Jurrens was assisted by Dan Schnoes and four student managers: Stephanie Augustin, Julie Hegi, Robin Hernbloom, and Deb Shanahan.
