This 1977-78 Band season was very busy. The Band took its first trip in June, 1977, to Worlds of Fun. Besides playing concerts, they attended the Kansas City Royals baseball game. In September the Band went to the Ne- braska State Fair in Lincoln, march- ing three times during the day. October saw many trophies. At Harvest of Harmony the Band re - ceived the class D trophy for parade marching and an excellent in field marching. The next Saturday brought the Columbus Day's Parade. Looking very sharp, they received a superior in field competition. The next week another superior was gained at Platts - mouth. For the fourth year in a row, Shelby's Band members received a superior at Pershing. In the March Band Clinic at York Auditorium, 25 Shelby Band mem- bers were chosen for Honor Band. The Band also participated in the contest at Platte College, receiving a supe- rior. CLARINET QUARTET: Top to bottom — Teri Fletcher, Rachelle Ingalls, Kim Coffin, LaRee Wagner. S-CLUB: The Shelby S-Club is a co-ed organization which represents the indi- viduals who have lettered during their high school years at Shelby. The club is an honorary group but does take part in such activities as Homecoming and Ath- letic Banquet. There are presently 56 members in the club. NEWSPAPER STAFF: Who, what, when, where, why, and how are the elements these students are faced with each week they are the staff of the Husky’ Howler. Each week, they are responsible for placing the news and events of the Huskies in the local paper, the Shelby Sun. STUDENT COUNCIL: This year's Student Council was obviously very' busy'. One of their achievements was organizing Homecoming ac- tivities. Also this year, the Student Council had a few fund-raising projects such as the cake raffles. The money they raised was used to place waste baskets in the school halls. The Student Council met weekly to voice student problems to the administration. We arrived at 10:30 a.m., May 6, at the Kalfran Lodge. Everyone en- joyed swimming, paddle boating, airplane riding, basketball, and playing cards. Saturday night we ate at a smorgasbord, and then to the Ozark Opry and to a disco dance. Sunday we all went shopping in Fun City and rode the bumper cars and go-carts. That night we ate at Chet's Restaurant and had chicken. Monday morning we left the Kalfran Lodge at 9:30 a.m. and arrived back in Shelby at 7:00 p.m. Our bus driver, Frank Johnston, made the trip a very safe and fun one. Everyone at least saw the pool once or twice with a little help from their friends. It will be a w’ell-remembered educational tour.
