After marching in the morning's parade, the band received a Superior rating and a tro- phy for their performance in the afternoon com- petition. I After hours of practice, the band journeyed to Lincoln for State Marching Contest on October 25, where they received an Excellent rating. The hometown fans enjoyed the half-time performances of the marching band during foot- ball season as much as the popular songs of the Pep Band during basketball season. They not only supported the team, but provided enter- tainment as well. At the Crossroads Conference Band Clinic in York, the SHS musicians won 12 out of 24 first chair positions. The band also delighted the crowd with their special number Alla Borocca. On April 24, the band traveled to Fullerton, for the District Music Contest. There, the band received 8 Superior and 3 Excellent ratings. This concluded a very successful year for the Shelby Husky Band. The club was divided into four squads, with squad leaders: Peggy Trout, Babs Wom- bacher, Susan Olcott, and Kathy Trout appointed to each. The purpose of this was to take less pressure off the Pep Club officers. The Squad's duties were to take care of the concession stand, make posters, and think of a name for their squad. The Junior-Senior banquet and Prom was held in the school gymnasium on Saturday night, May 2. The Junior mothers pre- pared the delicious meal served by the six servers. A French sidewalk cafe was the scene, and the theme was Evening in Paris. All the decorations, including the small Eiffel Tower in the center of the gym, set off the French mood. The servers wore typical French waiter costumes: the girls wore miniskirts, and the boys wore white coats and mustaches. The band for the evening was The Quiet Zone, a combo from Omaha. Following the grand march, a dance honored the parents of the Classes of 70 and 71. We, the Seniors, would like to thank the Juniors for present- ing the Prom of 1970. We will always remember it as one of our best times together at SHS. THIS PAGE sponsored BY: MR. AND MRS.
