THE HUSKY BAND We arc living in the age of Aquarius, so the song says, and the Shelby Husky Marching Band knows it. The word aquarius signifies wa- ter. Band Day in Lincoln brought the first opportunity for the Marching Huskies to perform, sporting their beautiful new uniforms and hats. Homecoming gave the Band their first chance to perform for the hometown crowd. The Band performed at all the home football games this year with a pre-game and a half-time show, another first for the Marching Huskies. The Pep Band then took over for the basketball sea- son continuing to support the teams in T. J. Brass style. The Band had their first taste of marching competition at Harvest of Harmony in Grand Island. This moist chilly day also brought the Hus- kies good luck, receiving hon- ors in marching competition. November 2, 1968, State Marching Contest was defi- nitely a turning point for the ground pounders. The band was one of the three Class D Bands out of eight in the State receiving a Superior rating and a big beautiful trophy. Incidentily, close examina- tion of the trophy will reveal water spots due to either rain- drops or tears of joy. At the Crossroads Confer- ence Band Festival held in York, the Shelby musicians worked hard and as a result won five first chair positions out of a total of fifteen. Thus concludes a very suc- cessful chapter for the Shelby Husky Band, truly living in the Age of Aquarius.
