The class of '58 seemed, then, all present and we were so busy talking, the rocket landing occurred unnoticed by any of us. It was not until after the landing that we realized on® classmate was absent, Dennis Peeser. We soon knew why, for when the door of the rocket opened, out stepped Dennis, looking like he had just awakened from a sound sleep. Dermis joined us and began relating his experiences on the rocket. It seems he had gone along to see if it were possible to sleep in outer space. As I recall, Dennis always did enjoy sleeping, especially in classes and study halls. All too soon our classmates began departing, each going to his or her respective home. Larry and I, with our two children decided to return to our California home, taking back with us never-to-be-for- gotten memories of this happy and historical occasion. 11

CLASS PROPHECY Shelby, Nebraska, was the sight of the first rocket ship landing from Mara in 1970. Millions of people from all over the world came to observe this wonderous event. My family and I were among the spectators on that event- ful day in June. The President of the United States, Robert Whitmore, who was the youngest man ever to become president, gave an over- whelming speech on the launching of this rocket a year pre- vious to the landing of it. J V When President Whitmore finished speaking, a crowd of people began gathering around him to congratulate him. 1 Joined this group without realizing they were all for- mer classmates. My good friend, Judy Harris, now known as Miss Judith, world renown cosmetologist, was present. Judy and I had met often before, as she was my hair stylist when I was a dra- matic star on television. More and more memories came back as I saw Sandra McMeekin. After talking to Sandra, I learned that, after graduating from the Minneapolis School of Business, she obtained the position of secretary to the president of General Motors. Sandra told me she was happily married. Upon talking to President Whitmore, I noticed two of his personal secretaries standing near-by. A second glance re- vealed they were Janet Dunning and Shirley Paulsen. They certainly had obtained the highest position in the secre- tarial field. Suddenly, a tall, dark, handsome man strolled over to whore Judy Blevins, now a famous artist in picturesque Can- ada, and I were talking. It was Larry Augustin, owner of a massive cattle ranch in Texas. We three renewed old friendships and after awhile, Janice Alt Joined ua. Janice had attended Mount Marty College in South Dakota and had become a home economics teacher in a new college in Florida. Others began Joining us; one of whom was Norma Jean Keel- er. She had just flown in from Paris, France, where she had been teaching high school mathematics. It seems the class of '58 produced several teachers. An- other was JoAnn Scholz who became an elementary teacher. Kenny Kuhnel could not seem to get a word in edgewise. I guess he never could, as far as women were concerned. He finally drew me aside to say he had become a leader in the field of rocket ship experimentations. Kenny had helped in the study of the rocket that was due to land at any moment The State Game Commissioner, Lee Glatter, joined Kenny and I. I suddenly burst out with laughter when I recalled how Lee had occasionally played hooky in order to go hunting and fishing. Everything became still and quiet; then beautiful music floated through the air. All eyes turned toward the stage where former classmate, Karen Thelen, was playing the piano, she had become a concert pianist and in her spare time, taught others her skill. ’ The concert was soon over but we were all interested in hearing of Karen's concert tours in foriegn countries. Our visiting was interrupted by the loud roar of a car. Only Sharon Deden could have a car that noisy. Sure enough it was. I was surprised to see she was driving a beautiful, now, maroon Mercury. I walked over to the car and found an- other classmate. Sue Doty, with Sharon. After talking to Sue, I found out that she had attended Wyoming State Teachers College and acquired an elementary certificate, and was teaching in Laramie, Wyoming. Her famed husband became pro-basketball player, so Sue is kept busy. I learned also that Sharon resides in Wyoming, where she is quite prominent in the field of advertising. Con't. page 11 10
