CLASS PROPHECY I had been trying vainly for over thirty years to make an important telephone call. Those two girls -- women now -- were still talking: “Why, yes, Mayor Denis King informed me yesterday that I would be in the receiving line. Nearly everybody will be there. The program will begin with an invocation by the historian, Professor Glenn Grayson, of the Glenn Dickson Academy of Learning. As you know, Professor Grayson has some brilliant colleagues in this fine school. One is English Professor Joseph Kennedy, whois making increas- ingly futile attempts to manage his only remaining pupils, Sonya Calhoun, Joan Propst, and Junius Gardner.” Orator Hoke Thompson, master of ceremonies, will then direct the spotlight to the quintet composed of Erma Jean Adams, Clyde Blanton, Dean Garver, Connie Carter, and Larry Moore, who have decided to harmonize with Bill Noblitt’s composition called ‘Because of a Comma.’ The last notes of this hair-pulling song will be a cue for the ‘New Daily Sun's' editor, Delores Blanton, to present Martha Cannon's reviewof ‘English in Three Simple Les- sons’, a reminiscence of a ‘5 1 English class by Ethel Pendleton. Next you will see Elaine Canipe and Derrell Howard add a little rhythm to the program by one of their special Russian dances which they affectionately have named 'The Mass of the Masses' Misses,’ a cross of the polka and the rhumba. A four-thousand foot canoe has been kindly donated by the Mohawk Canoe Manufactur- ing Company, owned and operated by William Canipe and Bob Bridges, This trim craft will be used in bringing our dancers across the ocean to America.” Near the middle of the program will come an impor- tant event -- the recognition of outstanding achievements in these various fields: sports, medicine, art, mechanical abilities, and literature.” Por their ability to coach and lead their respective football teams to ten victories and no losses, for their undying efforts to aid the sport of professional football, and for the fact that every thought was directed to the game, and not to money or personal fame, Graham Phifer, Jimmie Kiser, and Scott Spradley will receive platinum trophies given by platinum tycoon and one- time sportsman, T.G. Daniel, Jr., who recently attained an altitude of 30,000 feetin a slightly old turbo-jet Piper Cub. As you know, this airplane was designed by space engineers Neil Wilson, Billy Falls, and Ronald Hawkins, Mass production of this three-pound craft is the only policy known by the Smith-Ha ynes Space Ship Company, owned by Larry Smith and Larry Haynes. Receiving recognition in the vast field of art will be fashion designers Sylvia Stuart and Hilda Carpenter, who now have some stunning creations of the super-sonic capacity to be modeled by Pat Jarrett and Pat Howe, also two very stunning creations, Jack Hendrick, owner of the Southern Florists of America, has willingly asked if he may furnish corsages for the models, Turing now to digits, you will see an exhibition of flying fingers when Carolyn Thompson and Mary Ann Dover, the world's fastest typists, demonstrate their ability on the world's best typewriting machines. Nearly fifteen years was spent by inventor Rusty McDonald in designing and perfecting this flawless type of machine. “Bleanor Allen, world famous physician, along with her assistant, Nancy McLean, will be present to explain and demonstrate some of her latest medical discoveries. Some of us may be startled at what we will see. The climax of the ceremony will be the presentation of the Pulitizer Prize for literature to Sayde Eskridge and Marjorie Singleton who spent nearly twenty years in writ- ing their latest book entitled, ‘How to Cure Baldness,’ As objects of study they closely observed the heads of radio announcer Colon Goode and railway magnate Bobby Smith. Now, Jeanne, Charlotte continued, “since you have a good idea of the program, are you convinced that it will be an excellent banquet?” Yes, Charlotte, I am convinced, and I'll meet you there at seven o'clock. Well, good-bye.” Bye; Finally, after thirty years of waiting, I find my tele- phone with one noise issuing forth -- the dial tone. Slowly, cautiously, I dial the important number, 8221. DON ALLEN Prophet
