Boys Basketball Plavmg the heavxest schedule that a team of S H S has ex er plaxed the 1928 29 aggregatlon broke even on the schedule of tuentw games elght of vshlch were tournament games Out of the regular season of tw elve games the Shelbv qulnt lost SIX Onlx three of these defeats came from teams 1n thxs XlCll1lfX Conrad Cut Bank and Brovn nlng Choteau Whxtef1sh and Havre lnflxcted defeats upon Shelby but not wlthout a flght Onlv two games were lost on the home floor those with Wh1t6f1Sh and Choteau We had the pleasure of defeat1ng our old ru als Conrad in two out of three games We won two out of three from Cut Bank broke even wlth Browning ln two games but we cleaned the board vuth Sv. eet Grass w1nn1ng three out of three VVe also defeated Valler ln both of our encounters wlth them The Sub Dlstrlct tournament was held IH Shelbv on Februars 4 8 and 9 Shelby won all four games ln the tournament bx large ma1or1txes defeatmg Sweet Grass Conrad Cut Bank and Valler to vxln the shield symboll of flrst place Kelth Simon local forward won the hlgh pomt trophv to the Dlstrlct tournament There we ran up agalnst four large aggregatlons from large schools and conslstmg of old experlenced plavers for the most part We lost all four games of the tournament and took last place The flrst three 8311195 Were heart breakers for Shelbv was In the lead 1n all of them at half tlme only to drop behlnd and go down fightmg IH the latter sessxons All ln all however lt was a successful season both financially and morally The team was a good winner and better st1ll a good loser 16' l fe at ,I Fourteen 7 By winning the Sub-District tournament, Shelby won the right to go to Havre fl - ' -,A as g if if

Football The first game of the season started with a bang on Sept 29 with Choteau here and at the end of the first half the score stood 0 0 Choteau then scooped up a fum ble and went tor a touchdown That Jinxed us The orlglnal bogy that has pos sessed the Shelby team for three years took the heart from the boys and they allowed Choteau to make two more touchdowns Flnal score 19 0 The next week rolled around f1Ild1Ilg the Shelby leven feellng pretty hard The squad Journeyed to Conrad to clash with the chargmg farmers from Pondera It was an easy battle and resulted in a 4.1 0 score for the Maroon and Gold although the second string played most of the game The hard tlghtmg Chinook team lnvaded Shelby on Oct 5 Chlnook the best team on the Hx Line found Shelby tough opposition but weight experlence and speed finally downed Shelby s tightmg Splflt and the final gun found us holding the goose egg wlth Chinook '74 points ahead The Conrad team proved easy plcklngs for Our Gang on Oct 90 and the game perience The game ended with a 67 0 score Shelby On Oct 27 Shelby proved too smart for the Great Falls seconds and the boys returned from the Electrlc City victors by a 14 6 score Great Falls never 'xt any time led but were always a. threat The next Saturday the Maroon and Gold played a sloppy game at Choteau The team lacked speed and sp1r1t We pushed across one lone touchdown but the bun found us on the short end of a 50 6 score On Nov 1 Shelbv football fans saw the closest and most exciting game in the history of the local gridiron Mid clouds of dust the Shelbv team twice forced the fast hard hitting Belt ag gr gation at ross the llne tor a hard earned 1 ' 6 victory The game was llllply line bucks and end runs and our line held like a wall allowing Belt one lone touchdown On the whole this was Shelby s most successful football year Our total scores were greater than our opponents we beat another team besldes Conrad and we made money on the season Although a good deal of the weight is graduating we are looking forwald to a gxeat 1909 season 'Thirteen N u l - 41 I I . ..
