Farlberq porin 0l'l Basketball Class C Playoffs The Wolverines gained the chance to enter the District 9 Class C play-offs by compiling a finer record of wins than the other Class C team in their league. The first of preliminary play-offs matched the Wolverines against Horton Township on the Kane High School court. The Wolverines got off to a shaky start but splurged in the second half to outdistance their oppon- ents by a considerable 49 to 33 margin. This victory entitled Sheffield to meet Coudersport for the semi-final round at Bradford. Again the Wolverines were unable to click in the initial half and trailed at halftime 19 to 18. Keeping possession of the ball for the last minute of play, the Wolverines edged out a slim but suf- ficient 38 to 37 victory. Thus Sheffield gained the right to meet Penn Township, the southern winner, for the District 9 championship. The Penn Township quintet won the 1948-49 District 9 crown. With both teams apparently very well matched a close fast game was expected. And as was expected the fray was a nip and tuck battle from beginning to end. The fourth period meant defeat for Sheffield, with their poor foul-shooting, giving Penn their 42 to 41 victory. 1950 WOLVERINE GBIDIRON RECORD Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Games Away Younszsvi l le R1 dgwav St Ma rvs Smethport They Port Allegany St Bernard ' Kane Coach Ralph San to 225.6-A We . .
