Superintendent ' s Message TO THE CLASS OF 55 Congratulations. I say this because you have demonstrated a splendid spirit of interest and cooperation during this period of change to the regional sys- tem. As the transition class you have had to meet and deal with many of the problems, but are denied the joy, thrill, and privilege of moving into the new building and enjoying the many fine facilities and advan- tages. For years you have looked forward to the new school with its modern crafts, laboratories, and classrooms only to have the realization come one year too late. In spite of all this, you have transferred your alle- giance to the new system, you have joined whole heartedly with the members of the faculty from both schools without question. The continued growth and prosperity of your com- munities, State, and Nation are assured when our young people demonstrate such qualities of character. With every wish for your success and happiness. John Somes Superintendent of Schools

Mount Everett Regional School In making up this Yearbook of the activities of the school for the year 1955 it seems in order to mention the new school. In the Regional District School plan we have a new concept in approach to the problems of local education that has attracted the attention of practically every community in Massachusetts. It provides a way for small communities to acquire facilities equal to the larger towns and cities and still build and operate within their means. The Southern Berkshire Regional District, being about the fourth such district in Massachusetts to reach the building stage, and the first in the state to establish a twelve grade district is thereby making history in this respect. In 1953 the Regional Planning Board, with the backing of our citizens, established the rules and conditions governing the operation of the district. In 1954 the elected Regional Committee and their chosen architect, Warren Ashley of West Hartford, Conn, with help and advice obtained from many sources, established the site and the physical details of the Mount Everett School Building. If the schedule of construction proceeds as expected, the new school building will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 1955 under the supervision of John Somes, with most of the present faculty with some additional teachers. The Committee members have put their best efforts into the planning and detail of the new building, that it may have most of the essential things in it that make up a good economical, modern school building. Upon completion of this school, the com- munity of Towns will have completed one of the most important steps in their history. The Committee has great faith and hopes in this project and know that it will warrant the great pride and satisfaction of the citizens of the community. Untiring effort must be maintained by everyone concerned for the successful operation of the district. The operation will be watched by many other communities, so let ' s make it good. I know that we can depend upon the interest and co-operation of the student body to help to make Mount Everett School an institution to be proud of. We depend on you. Congratulations to the members of the graduating class of 1955. May they attain happiness, success, and the good things in life. Charles M. Conklin, Chairman March 1, 1955
