EDITORIAL With the approach of another graduation, parents and teachers again share the question of whether their young people are adequately prepared to assume the role of active citizens. The graduate ' s idea of democracy should include a thorough understanding of his responsibility as it concerns his community, his nation and himself. We can probably judge the abilities of these young men and women as future citizens of our nation by their behavior as citizens of our school. I believe that the Class of 1949 is greatly endowed with ethical character. This has been well displayed in the individual ' s sense of personal respons- ibility and initiative, as well as through a spirit of service and loyality to the school. During my first year at Sheffield High School, I have relied heavily upon the assistance and co-operation of these young people. The response has always been most heartening. Their vigorous health, command of fundamental knowledge, avocational interests, combined with their loyal school citizenship should qualify them for complete and worthy living as members of our democratic nation. The educational responsibilities of the home, church and school must always be faced on a partnership basis if we are to continue to graduate well qualified citizens from our schools. From what I have seen of the members of the Class of 1949. I feel certain they will find contentment and happiness, as well as serve useful and active lives. Howard, V.
