an ' In looking back over our high school career, we have many people and events that bring back happy memories. In 1951, fifteen Freshmen prepared themselves for their first initiation. They were: Helen Marie Cathelyn, Russell Chasteen, Ruth Anne De Freezer, Marlene Driessens, Rose Mary Gentry, Roland Fisher, Bobby Ted Johnson, Camille McCune, Larry Nutter, Martha Nutter, KennyRiggs, Lois Sipes, Wayne Smith, Marilyn Stonewall, and Charles Young. We elected class officers: President--Charles Young, Vice- President--Marlene Driessens, Secretary--Helen Cathelyn, Treasurer--Rose Mary Gentry, Sergeant-at- Arms--Camille McCune. We designed a 55 class bannerland selected orange and blue as our class colors. The firstdancewe gave was the, Homecoming Dance and the theme was Shine on Harvest Moon . For our class parties, we went roller skating twice under the super-vision of Mr. Host, our class sponsor. Our Sophomore class officers -were: President--Bobby Ted Johnson, Vice-President--Marlene Dries- sens, Secretary--Lois Sipes, Treasurer--Wayne Smith, Sergeant-at-Arms--Larry Nutter. On December 23., we gave the Christmas Dance with Julian Heene's Orchestra. Rose Mary Gentry and Camille McCune were chosen Jr. Varsity cheerleaders. Our class parties were spent roller skating and attending the movie, Miracle of Fatima, with our class sponsor, Mrs. Johnson. Roland Fisher decided to leave us after the first semester of this year. Our Junior class officers were: President- -Ruth Ann De Freezer, Vice-President--Marlene Driessens, Secretary--Sharon Thomas, Treasurer--Helen Cathelyn. Our sponsors were Mrs. Bealer and Mr. White. Rose Mary Gentry and Camille McCune were chosen Sr. Varsity cheerleaders. We gave the Christmas Dance with Julian Heene's Orchestra. We ordered our class rings and gave the Junior-Senior Prom with the theme, 'Moonlight and Roses . Our class parties were a movie, Return to Paradise , and a party in the school gymnasium. Our first class play was given. It was Wish on the Moon . We lost Martha Nut- ter and Marilyn Stonewall this first semester. Sharon Thomas and Larry Nutter did not return for their final year, so eleven students entered their Senior year and elected the following officers: President--Helen Cathelyn, Vice-President --Wayne Smith, Secretary--Marlene Driessens, Treasurer--Rose Mary Gentry. Our sponsors were again Mrs. Bealer and Mr. White. Camille McCune and Rose Mary Gentry were again chosen as Sr. Varsity cheerleaders. Our first-semester class party was a movie, The Barefoot Contessa, which was held at Princeton. We put on the Freshman Initiation program with the theme of Freshies are Funny . Immediately after the program we sponsored a dance with music by Julian Heene and his Orchestra. We gave the Senior class play called Kay Beats the Band . Russell Chasteen left us after the first semester. We all were kept busy planning for the publishing of the CARDINAL. We were also kept in suspense waiting for our class trip which is to be one day spent touring Washington D.C. and three days in New York City. 1975--A wonderful time was had by all the Alumni of the class of '55 at their reunion in good old Sheffield gymnasium. lt's been twenty years since we graduated, and time has made only a few changes in us. Kenny Riggs surprised everyone by flying fin an airplanel clear from the island of Suzy-loo where he is the King of the Barton-ian Tribe. Kenny was the first white man ever to set foot on the small tropical island and since then he has kept all primitive customs sheltered from modern civilization. Kenny cleverly made his way by selling his car and buying S25 worth of collar buttons with which he got complete control of the native workers. Two decades have changed Helen Cathelyn by giving her prematurely white hair. We all were not surprised since redheads usually end up thatway. Helen went to college on a bubble dancing scholarship. She is known to all her personal friends as Tootie She is now dean of women at an institution for red -headed girls. Rose Mary Gentry, now known as Mrs. Miller, has also made her way as a professional woman by inventing a quick reducing system known as Rosy's Reducing Routine . This system involved putting on a cast iron affair called Rosy's Miller Muzzle which locks around your jaws and prevents you from eating a thing until she unlocks it with the only key Rosy and Bob are the parents of twelve thin children. The famous professor, Robert Theodore Johnson, whose fame is not needed to be mentioned here, flewi all the way from Copenhagen, Denmark, where he is a doctor in Genetics. Once he crossed a horseshoe with a corpse and got a lucky stiff. His first failure was when he crossed a corner with a red light and got a ticket. He is now working on dehydrated water. All you do is add water and you have water! Ruth Ann De Freezer was late in coming to the reunion since she was tied up in St. Louis with her fan club. She is now a famous movie star in Hollywood and has taken the theatrical name of Deepa Freezer. She is known world wide since her figure is on every Rexall Drug Store calendar. Deepa is on her way to New York, where she will be starring in the current Broadway production, The Life of Berle Ives . Wayne Smith graduated from Macomb College and was previously engaged in coaching at Harvard Univer- sity. He losthis job thererecemly since it was the rumor that co-eds were being paid to play on athletic teams. He is said to be a multi-millionaire because he invested all his money in an industry of his own invention. This consists of fermenting orange juice and packing it into six-can packs. Wayne furnished all the refreshments for the reunion. He drove to Sheffield in a maroon, 1975 Cattle-Ack. ' Lois Sipes is known by all in the field of literature. Her name is in every school book as one of America's most versatile authors. Herrecentnovels were IWasA Teenage Schoolgirl and The Curfew Tolled While the Ash Can Rolled , based on her own life history and experiences. Lois's bold, earthly, realistic style of writing will leave you gasping. Charles Young drove up in back of the school house in a long, black, bullet-proof limousine. Heiwas here only long enough to shake hands with everyone and pass out election buttons. As you must know, Chuck is cam- paigning for election for Junior Senatorof Illinois. His platform is, No more schools for Illinois . Since eighteen -year olds can now vote in this state, he is almost sure of all the young people's votes. But just in case of some old-fashioned elders, he has the bullet-proof limousine. Marlene Driessens graduated from the Moline Institute of Commerce. She is famous as being the fastest typist in the U.S, and recentlywon the cup at the Olympic Sports Events held in Australia for being the world's fastest short-hander. Afteryears of money making she married her high school sweetheart, Don Vyneman, who founded the first jet streetcar running from Mineral to Sheffield. After years of hard work, Camille McCune finally struggled her way to the top. Under the strict coaching of her old band director, Mr. Host, she became famous as aprofessional flute player. Only last year, she was named the only girl in the world who could swim the English Channel while playing F1ight of the Bumblebee' on a flute. Needless to say, Camille was quite proud of her water-filled flute pin which she wears on her letter sweater and she didn't hesitate to show it to everyone at the reunion. The gaiety- of the reunion lasted until the wee hours of the morning and at the close of the party, we all, with upraised cans of fermented orange juice, drank a toast to our 1985 reunion.
