CLASS WILL We, the omniscient members of the 1944 graduating class of Sheffield Community Consolidated High School, being of sound mind and reasonable judgment and completing the duly prescribed courses of study demanded by our State and City Fathers, hereby wish to settle upon our legatees, the lower classmen and faculty members, the following, for which we have no further use: To Mr. Harlan we leave a largeblackjpolice whistle. Perhaps then, we shall marvel at the good behavior of the fu- ture assemblies in coming to order. y To Mrs. Harlanwe leave the memories of a Latin Clas that was unique, if nothing more. To Miss Corey we leave the outlook of a more agree- able Junior Class ..... especially during class meetings. To Miss Meats we leave the memories of bigger and better hot-dogs with less points. To Mr. Sturmwe leave the memories of his successful year of coaching at S.C.C.S. and should it be in the cards, a Successful career with Uncle Sam. To Mr. Primo we leave a larger waste basket for his collection of slightly used gum. Gladys DeBolt leaves her superior height to Phyllis Crockett. Berniel Wolf wills her athletic ability to Donna Wilhelm. Marjorie Kane leaves her good Irish temper to Miss Moats, , Dorothy Treanor leaves her agreeableness to Reesa Burchett. ' Darell Bills wills his thirty-five mile speed limit to Miss Corey. We, the members of the class of 1944, do hereby set our hand and seal and publish this, last will and testament ln T06 Dreeence of the witnesses named below, f- orney Witnesses y5Laf2Q9 fgZLQjLb Ehlers -J7-Jf?1Gi-lZ7 c CLASS SONG For the last time we're leaving this school, And it's all been such fun. A We're leaving all our books and keeping memoriesg And now we're going to strive for higher degrees. For the first time we find that it's hard To day good-bye to our school. So this last time will be the best time To use our motto as our rule. Tune ..... CFor the First Time? fI've Fallen in Love.D MOTTO NMind not the breakers, but straight aheadn PROPHECY The other day I was taking my mid-after- noon nap I was dreaming peacefully when all of a sudden, out of a Clear sky, I saw a bird--a plane--Superman, He said to me, UHow can I be of aid to you?U As I had been striving to write the 1944 Glass Prophecy, I told him he could help me with the prophecy. He said, NI will set my X-Ray-Vision on the year 1955 and see if I can help you.U He did, and this is what he revealed to me. HI see a person carrying a large oil can towards a large dipper. This dipper is part of a drag-line stripping Mother Earth of her blanket of sod. The person in the picture is none other than Kansas Gkwnoj Moore venturing out to oil his machinery. I now see a canine hospital. The atten- dant, dressed in white blouse and skirt, is none other than MIS. Berniel Wolf Finnigan. She seems to be giving a trans- fusion to a Blood-hound. Ah, we see Gladys DeBolt CPD serving Wayne Moore and Dale Humphrey afternoon tea, It seems to be misty and a slight drizzle iS falling, but through it I see a shabbyold shanty surroun- ded by tall grasses and weeds. Will you look at that old lady twiterpated with love! She is waiting for the fleetti come in. Marjorie Kane of 1944 is waving at us. ' Down the road a bit from this shanty is a blg farm home, let's visit there a while. The sign hanging across the lane reads HSlusser's Long-Tail Cow Farmu and be- neath it it reads, UGuaranteed Milkn. Down the lane trips a dairy maid, and believe it or not, it is our own Bernice Vander Meersch, Bernice was coming after the mail and no- ting that she had received a letter of interest to us, she requested us to await the reading of it. The letter is from Joan Madsen, a Biology teacher at Stanford University. En- closed is a picture of her at the microscope, trying to dis- cover what makes a flea jump so far. President Frank Slock ....... ...Vice President Katherine Spratt ........ Sec.-Treas. Bob Sprowls ......... Sergeant-at-Arms In September 1942, twenty-two freshmen met on the steps of good old S.G.G.S., not knowing what the future held for them. They were welcomed by the seniors at a later date, when Freshman Initiation and Dance was held. A class election was held and the following officers wereselected by the groupz- Jim Hughes, presidentg Gene Baetens, vice presi- dentg Glenn Sipes, Secretaryg Betty Ann VanDeHandy, treasur- erg and Frank Slock, Sargeant-at-Arms. During the year Mr. Daniels was called into the serviceand Miss McGune continued as class advisor. The first class social event was a dance. On March 6 the annual St. Patrick dance was held. Dancing was enjoyed to the music of Heinie's Harmonizers. Near the completion of the school year a Hay-ride party was enjoyed. The hay-ride terminated in Gebeck's grove where the riders enjoyed games and relished gypsy stew. S On September 5, l943Q the same group entered the S.C.G.S. for their second year. It was a more dignified and business-like group than in 1948- Their first Party WGS H Sadie-Hawkins-Day Race held in Gebeck's grove. Games WSIS played and sackslunches were eaten. On February 12 the So- phomores sponsored a Valentine Dance. The music was fur- nished by Doc Huntfs orchestra. N Gene Baetens,Jin1Hughes,anc.Kurt Nestler, achieved outstanding grades and made the honor roll. Semester exams inations were passed, with a few casualties, and the SOPUOF mores are looking forward with pleasure to the next year. . FRESHMAN HISTORY Arline Nestler .. ...... President Richard Dean .,. .. Vice President Peggy Hull .... ..... Sec.-Treas On September 3, 1945, the class of '47 enrolled as Freshmen. This was their first glimpse of what the fu- ture years at S.G.G.S. would be like. They soon became acquainted with their faculty and school mates. Freshman Initiation was held on September 24 in the form of a nightgown party. The Seniors honored them with a day of activity and a dance in the evening. On the third of January they held their first class party. Their second party was in April, and the annual freshman dance was held April 28, l944. On Valentines day they presentedtheir class ban- ner to the school. Arline Nestler presented a banner of green and white felt which was designed by Laverne Taylor. Those of the group who made the Honor Roll were LaVerne Taylor, Rosanne Miller, Richard Wickham, Arline Nestler, and Ruth Newman. Many of the members were active in athletics and in music. The other classes have the advantage now in the writing of their history,as they have had a longer career. Never-the-less, by the time the freshmen are seniors they should be able to write volumes. J xl ,I 1 Pnopnrcr - continued Joan writes about another of the Classmates., ..of a girl who, in the past, has had many difficulties and Says she will never be the same. Her four sons have driven her to drink ---- but, Edith, we all thought you said you were going to be an old maid. Edito writes that she is going to consult Dorothy Treanor Ca second Emily Postlin an effort to find how to get her sons to eat sitting down. At this point I felt a bit fatiguedand.needed a coke, so I started back to town to refresh myself at the UYoung Junioru Coke stand. On my way I foundit necessary to Pass the school house. Upon looking in the window I no- ted Sylvia Nestler searching books for advise, She had been engaged to-teach the kindergarten classes. But my attention was distracted by a group of soldiers running down the street to where a group of people were crowded around a singer giving out with a will. Upon J0iHiHg the group I discovered Marjorie Wicht, the Uhot song bird from Brooklynn. ' Marjorie told me that she had received a note from Darell Bills, coach at Langley, telling her that he had been having tough luck during the season. Flugo deserves ' better break than this. Maybe Superman can help him. i While talking with Marjorie I had to step as- ide to permit a pick-up truck to rattle down the street af- ter a black cow. The truck was going quite fast, butI was able to detect the printing, NSheffield Locker Servicen on the side and note a man with knife in teeth holding onto the side---none other than Pie Humphrey, Sheffield's Locker man. I know that his hurry is, it is nearly time for lunch and he doesn't want to be late ..... No, you are fooled folks ........ Marcia Moore doesn't fit in the picture here .:..but she does, in Hollywood. Marcia is now singing in pictures and a lovely vision she makes as she steps forward and singS UAlohaH. Thank you, Superman, you were a great help. What's that you say ---- who is calling? Yes, Mr. Harlan, I hear what you say. I'll try to remain awake for the rest of the period.
