L , . an ,ff ps 1 tk ,si u it ' me EW 'Class History Just eleven years ago last September a group of little be- wildered boys and girls entered the huge red brick building called Shawswick Consolidated School. Our teachers were Mrs. Vera Lofton and Mrs. Estelle Kern. We ,learned to read, print our names, and distinguish our numbers. Our second year was spent in Miss Esther Hunter's room. We were in the rhythm band and thought that we were very important. Mrs. Margaret Nuemiester was our third grade teacher. We learned our multiplication table during this year. Our fourth grade teacher was Mrs. Thelma Holiman. She let us use pen and ink for the first time, much to the regret of our mothers. During our fifth year of school, we began to develop some very severe cases of puppy love. However, this did not interfere in our rapid progress in the fundamentals of education. Mrs. Amzel Fortner was our teacher. In our sixth year Mr. Byron Chapman was our teacher. We were privileged to organize a basketball team and to elect our own cheerleaders. This added to our importance. At last we moved to the other side of the building. We were very much confused by all the different classes and different rooms. We were able to adjust to the new life, however, and the next two years passed very rapidly. In our freshman class we gained several new members from Englewood. As our class project, we sold magazines. Our sponsors were: Mr. Clarence Dowling and Mr. Robert Lundy. In our sophomore year, we had difficulty with plane geometry. In the spring our class held their picnic in Spring Mill State Park. Mr. Clarence Dowling was our class sponsor for this year. Our junior year was filled with many activities. concessions at noon and at the ballgames. we had a lot of fun de- corating for our Junior Senior Prom Durin this ear We sold - . g y , we gave a nvariety Shown and a play entitled nEverybody's Crazy.n Our hard-working, devoted sponsors were Mrs. Thelma K. Wagoner, and Mr. Maurice Horton. At last, the big year arrived, and we were Seniors. For our project, we sold Christmas cards and booster plates. We worked very hard to put out our Annual. Baccalaureate was held May 11 and Commencement, May 16. Students attending Shawswick all twelve years were Nancy Younger, Sharon Peed, Jo Spinks, Ann Easton, Ann Mathews, Barbara Todd, Beverly Todd, Wanda Fish, Howard Ragsdale, Joe Payton, Kenny Ikerd, Roy Pace, Tom wykoff, Jim Woody, and Archie Fields. GUR CREED , We believe that the school of Shawswick is a good place for students. We believe in the kindness and sagacity of the teachers of Shawswick. We believe in ourselves as a class, that in union, we have achieved successes not possible to pupils singly. We believe in ourselves as individualsg that each of us has contributed to the distinction of the classy that we are prepared to go out into life with eyes for its opportunities, with training for its work, with fearlessness for its hard- ships. ' We trust in the goodness of the men and women we are about to take our places among, we believe that they are groping upward, even as we, that we shall stumble and falter at times, even as theyg and we will have charity toward all mankind, even as we would have all mankind deal charitably with us. We trust that the life which is to follow school will be generously worth our while, we believe that life disciplines wrong, in-action, and frivolityg that it rewards pectitude, application, and earnestness. We believe that life is good, life is beautiful, life is purposeful, that the privilege to live is a gift from Godg that we should return thanks by upright and fruitful living. We have faith for the days when our hair shall be white and our steps slow, that they will hold only pure and beauti- ful memories of the past.
