Shawnee Maids Maintain Spirit Despite Losses Despite hard practices, much spirit, and the leadership of Mrs. Scarborough, the Shawnee maids suffered a losing season as they lost all of their basketball games to the teams in Dis- trict S . The team was composed of girls from the ninth through twelfth grades. At the beginning of the season, Trudy Rumburg was elected captain and Nancy Mills was elected co-captain by the other members of the team. Varsity Cheerleaders Spark School Spirit WAY DOWN IN OLD VIRGINIA . . . Varsity and JV cheerleaders join together for a cheer during Home- coming game. THOSE STEPS ARE PRETTY . . . With this thought in mind Judy Rice, Brenda Lawrence, Linda Brammer, Sally Heslep, captaing Charlotte Sisson, Alice Pear- Despite the loss of two girls, the varsity cheerleaders proved a valuable asset to our basketball teams. Bright smiles and a willing- ness to lend support were always evident in their personalities, andthe cheerleaders never failed to show enthusiastic encouragement. By holding pep rallies and teaching stu- dents many of the yells, student participation was greatly increased. At every game, the cheerleaders led the student body in cheering the teams on to victory. A s sisting the varsity cheerleaders in maintaining enthusiasm were the JV cheer- leaders.
