Miss ADHS 1965 Selected At Pageant A big red and white heart and the theme, Sweethearts of l965, set the scene for the an- nual Miss ADHS pageant sponsored by the junior and senior classes. Forty-seven lovely ladies competed for the title of Miss ADHS of 1965. Miss Kay Compton was selected to reign as Miss ADHS of 1965. The judges selected Nora Compton as first runner-up and Jean DeHart as second runner-up. Other girls in the top twelve were Sally Heslep, Alice Pearman, Charlotte Sisson, Judy Rice, Linda Hall, Della Bland, Ollie Johnson, Charlotte Young, and Donita Williams. All of the contestants were sponsored either by one of the local businesses or one of the clubs or homerooms at ADHS. Miss ADHS of 1964, Linda Brammer, crown- ed Kay before she received her robe and flowers. 49 HOPE THE MICROPHONE WORKS . . . Wayne Clowers and Jimmy Pearman alternate as master of ceremonies 'for the beauty pageant.

For Pete's Sake, a three-act comedy, was presented by the Dramatics Club in May, 1964. The cast consisted of twelve students. Peter Pepperdine fLynwood Firebaughj was Miss Sarah P e pp e r din e ' s lazy, scheming nephew whose general aim was to finish Elwood College with the least work possible. Bill Bradshaw CTommy Helmj was Peter's bosom friend who had much the same idea as Peter had. Thorndyke Murgle- thorpe or Muggsy fRonnie Austinj was the intel- lectual type hired to see that Peter learned his Latin well. Mrs. Georgiana Clarkston fJudy Brandaub was the social-climbing matron whose only wish was to marry her daughters off to g e nt le m e n of means. Dean Murglethorpe fMacon Sammonsj was the dean of Elwood College who tried to excuse Peter's poor grades for the sake of Aunt Sarah. Miss Sarah Pepperdine fLinda Smithy was a leader of social excellence in Elwood. Jasmine Jackson Wicki Naffj was' the charcoal cook who firmly believed that Grandpap Pepperdine's ghost roamed about the mansion and spoke to her from his portrait.
