FFA Encourages Interest In Agriculture l OFFICERS . . . Leading the FFA are Ricky Atkins, president, Watson Dickerson, vice-president, Marshall Dickerson, secretary, Jerry Dehart, treasurer, Leon East, reporter, Bobby Cook, sentinel. The FFA is sponsored by Mr. Vishneski. The Future Farmers of America is a farm youth organization of voluntary membership. It strives for the development of leadership, the building of a more permanent agriculture, and the improvement of country life. Teams for judging crops and trees are formed of club mem- bers. These teams compete with other chapters for top honors in judging. Some of the FFA's activities for the past year included sponsoring a sock-hop after aball game, co-sponsoring a spring dance with the FHA, having a father-son banquet, and present- ing an assembly program. 40

Elected at the beginning of the year, Carol Williams, president, Trudy Rumburg, vice- presidentg Edna Amos, secretary-treasurer, Linda Brammer, reporter, and Nancy Richardson, chap- lain, led the Tri-Hi-Y through a successful year. The Tri-Hi-Y is a scholastic club for girls whose ideals and purposes are based entirely on Christian beliefs. It is the purpose of the Tri- Hi-Y to create, maintain, and extend throughout the home, school, and community, high standards of Christian living. The Tri-Hi-Y sold candy at ball games in order to raise money to send two delegates to the Model General Assembly in Richmond. Oth- er projects of the club included having devotions at PTA, sponsoring the March of Dimes Drive, and conducting religious services at school as- semblies. TRI-HI-Y . . . We Work together to help individuals im- prove personal, family, and community living. Our local chapter is affiliated with the Mary Draper Federation, FHA and the Virginia Association, FHA. Among our projects for this school year, the most outstanding are these: Landscaping the new home economics building, redecorating the girls' lounge in the main building, attending summer FHA-FFA camps, having a fashion show of garments we have made , having a mother-daughter banquet, having informative programs monthly, and sponsoring money- making projects to finance our activities.
