Three areas - drama, speech, and journalism - are all language arts, yet quite different. Drama meant all the excitement of a first-nighterg learning the basics of acting and behind-the-scenes importance of lighting and sound. But most impor- tantly it was an appreciation of what happens behind the greasepaint and bright lights. Speech and debate, the honorable argument, was the meeting of two minds over a ques- tion. Journalism was learning the guts of a newspaper, learning writing, layout, and all the things that make up the publication people read every day. Important too was lear- ning how the press affects us in our everyday lives. Drama, Speech, Journalism 27 IJ
